I think the majority of travel ball coaches, some hs coaches and the scouting services, are helping NC Carolina kids get noticed more. As a coach for both vb and sb I can tell you that the people involved in softball are doing a great job of getting their kids noticed.

One thing a recruit must take into consideration, there are very few full rides in softball. Parents must realize that a coach can only do so much finacially. But, more then that the must realize the talent level of their child. So many times I hear, my child is DI and that is what we are waiting for. These are usually kids that are calling in the summer about the next fall season. I am convinced that if a player wants to play college ball, there is a school somewhere. Do the research, talk with school, coach and more importently talk with the players at that school. The biggest deciding factor still must come down to education. Make sure the school has your field of study, not something close, but your field of study. Remember if something happened and you couldn't play ever again. Will you be happy with your school?

Trust me when I say softball players, coaches, and parents are doing a very good job in NC. VB on the otherhand is way behind.

Fastpitchpro, that's bait I will not take, thanks just the same. The truth is kids earn the scholarship offers based on their abilities. I will not assume sole credit for any one of our kids getting offers. It would be absurd for me to think their success and good fortune is only our doing. We merely help in the process, primarily by making their profiles and videotapes immediately accessible to every coach in the country, setting up unofficial visits with admissions offices, and the like. We also occasionally serve as advisors with a clear mandate of not instructing kids and parents on what to do, but to provide them with the viable options we are aware of. Our job is to help put the kids in a position to receive offers they might not otherwise have opportunities to receive, not to get them scholarships.

What most people are unaware of is that we have two clients - the kids we work with and college coaches. The NCAA specifically restricts us, too, so there are some things we definitely cannot and will not do. Yes, working with kids does put bread on my table, but it does the same for a pitching coach, a personal trainer, a health club manager, or other specialty coaches. Heck, a high school coach gets a supplement for coaching, too.

Mine is fascinating, rewarding work, just as I expect yours is. We all share a genuine passion for helping kids, but sometimes our egos get in the way of listening to other points of view and appreciating other people for what's in their hearts. I'm as guilty as the next guy, but it's people like you who make me stop and re-examine my place in all this. It's obvious that you have a sincere, vested interest or your passion would not show through, like it does for the other contributors to this and other threads. In the end, I go to bed every night knowing that what I do for a living makes a difference in young people's lives. That's good enough for me.

P.S. This fall, we will have players formerly associated with our program on rosters in various colleges of every NCAA division, the NAIA and the NJCAA in NC, SC, TN, VA and AL, and the best part? They are there because they deserve it.
