Now, before I ask this question, I understand that a coach may at some point or numerous points in a game approach an umpire to question or obtain clarification of a call, BUT, I recently attended a high school game that a coach, approached the umpire on each and every call that did not goes in favor of his team. Why??? I'm sure he had a reason, but I found it very annoying. I wanted to watch baseball, not the coach argue each call.....please, help me understand.

    I would

think it comes from the need for attention. Trying to make up for lack of coaching skills, skills of their players. I have seen it benefit some and others it is their downfall. This of course is an opinion.

I know umpires are not too fond of this. If you appoach them politely and privately and ask for an explanation most will oblige but questioning every call usually hurts you more than it helps.

    yuck

i know coaches that do this as well. makes ya just want to toss em a pacifier.

seen 3 things happen - toss em (my fave) but that requires paperwork from the official.

give in and calls go that coaches way (i hate this and dont think those refs should ever call at that school again)

smirk and NO calls go that coaches way (2nd fave) but i feel for the kids sometimes on this one

how about option #4- ignore the jerk and call the game as best you can, letting the players decide the outcome.
