Nice to see On Deck posting on here. A lot of people are interested in the program.

Does anyone know if the O's will take players from outside the Charlotte area, like Asheville? I'm assuming, for practices purposes, they want to keep in near Charlotte. Asheville High has a 2010 catcher who's looking for a team for next summer.

2014 graduates? Wow. This thing is getting younger and younger.

However I agree with Braves that it is nice to see On Deck post about this.

    Players outside of Charlotte

I won't say it is impossible, but you need to be able to make practices. I would say have the player contact On Deck. They really push building the "team" concept, and it is tough if you can't make it to practice. Have him get ahold of them, and maybe they can work something out.

    getting younger

One Putt, On Deck designates their teams by grade, not by age, most of the 2014 guys are 13. Putting them together by grade, obviously helps when you get older and colleges start looking. Colleges seem to get frustrated going to a 2010 showcase tournament (for example) and seeing a lot of "young" 2009 players. They may be done reqruiting that year. Just my two cents.

I played for On Deck back in '03 and '04 and I loved it. The Hill family are first class and they run a great program that Mike Schildt built from the ground up. I could go on for days talking about Mike Schildt and how great of a guy he is but this is about On Deck so I will keep it at that. The teams are built pushing the "team" concept like someone stated earlier. They will push you mentally and physically to get better but they only do that to prepare you for the next level. They have a great supporting staff there at On Deck to help you with any phase of the game your wanting to get better at. The tournaments we played in were well scouted and every coach at On Deck did there best to get you to the next level. Everyone on our team except for one guy went on to play college baseball. The one guy had a lot of places to go play college baseball but went to school for a education only and the school he went to was a great place to go. So as far as exposure is concerned they will get your name out there, you just have to perform when they put you on the field.

I recommend if you have the chance to play for them it's one you won't regret but be prepared to work your butt off and the occasional butt chewing, if needed(and parents if your son can't handle it, then he won't make it in college baseball, I promise you that). I'm not trying to take away anything from the other programs within the state i'm just giving you a first hand opinion from someone that has gone through On Deck. If anyone has any questions about them feel free to PM me and I will give you as much information as possible about them.
