Thanks for making that a little more simple Guru! I never meant to say or sound like I teach my players to throw at anyone. Certainly not in hopes of an umpire giving us an interference call. I am not talking about anyone in particular, but I have seen, as well as alot of you have, players intentionally not slide or bend over or make any attempt to avoid a throw. Just saying a SS or 2nd baseman for that matter, should always try and complete the play.

 

The runner going to second is out when the SS touches second base, not because the ball hits her, if that were to happen.

.....yes but you better make sure the throw is a good one.
I've seen the slightest altering of a throw get by 1B and now we have a runner on 2B.

Make the throw. If the girl doesnt slide then she has been taught not to in order to break up the DP. My SS would throw the ball. It is the runners job to move out of the way.
