    Umpiring responsibility for this situation

If this was a 2 man umpiring crew, then the fly ball or line drive would be the responsibility of the plate ump, unless it was a trouble ball. The way this hit has been described it was definitely not a trouble ball. The field umps responsiblity would be the runner and the base touches.

With all this being said, I despise grandstanding by any participant of the game!!!

    bad calls

I was at a local NSA tourney and while watching 2 teams that I was not associated with play, the ump was having a tough time getting his strike zone in order. Parents from both teams were giving him a fit. The pitcher threw a high pitch. The batter foul tipped it over the catcher and the ump into the backstop. The ump said strike 3 batter out, coaches and fans go nuts. The ump had all he could stand and threatened to clear the stands. From all these post I can almost see a lot of the people posting here that could have been at that game giving the ump heck for that bad call. It happens at every game by the good fans and coaches that won't ever do anything bad. I've done it myself. A way to relieve STRESSSSSSSSSS.

jester said... Bad calls, and bad decisions by coaches and players, happen. AND umps too. Comes with the game. But the UMPS are the final decision makers. I have umpired before and its what kind of repour you have with the coaches, players and FANS if they know you. We want to see the players/coaches/umps preform at the best of their ability.

Yes, they can make a call that has an effect on the game. This past week in a basketball game in Charlotte a player hit a shot at the buzzer and his team won the state championship and the ref said basket good. But TV/ESPN replay said buzzer sounded and red light was on before ball left the players hand. Players and coaches and parents were totally upset....

I don't think using a player, coach, fan or ump/refs name is the way to go. But the point can be made by telling the truth, even when the truth hurts. And sometimes like in this case, it may take the media/print/blogs to get the point across. Just watch ACTION9 in Charlotte w Don Griffin when people get screwed by business. If the ref/ump stinks get him/her out of there and put the good ones in....... If you agree with me fine, if not, that's OK too....

    My Daughter !!

The only comment that I will make is that the man made a wrong call ,but he is human. Rebekah is okay, she was disappointed at first, but she is a typical teenager more concerned about other issues than a homerun. She has gotten stronger over the winter thanks to Coach Flowe's workouts ( Piedmont's Baseball Coach), and the body image course that she is taking this semester, so she is pumped up about her potential. This want be the last homerun she hits this year. Thanks for all that love the game, and want to see it run correctly. Good Luck to all high schools this 2009 season and hopefully we will see somebody in the States !!

What's Up? You are being so politically correct. The old guru would want the gave film to send to Raleigh for justice. Let it hang out and get justice.
