UNC Pembroke (14-1) climbed from #17 to tie for #3 in the latest Collegiate Baseball poll found at http://www.baseballnews.com/polls/divII/currentpolldivII.htm

It is the highest ranking achieved by the UNCP baseball program. Additionally, The Peach Belt Conference has seven teams ranked in the to 22; GA College #1, UNC Pembroke #3, North GA #11, USC Aiken #16, Francis Marion #17, Columbus State #19 and Armstrong Atlantic State at #22.

Congratuations to Coach O'Neil, his staff and the players. Stay hunger and stay focused as there is plenty of baseball left to play.

    Go Braves!

Amazing!!! UNCP is always one of the best teams in the state--at any level. They also play in the toughest conference in D2. They are off to a great start. Good luck the rest of the year.

The pitching staff at UNCP has been amazing. When you have a team ERA under 2.00 after fifteen games, you know there is some serious pitching going on.

My favorite stat for their staff is they have struck out 159 and walked only 40. When you are striking out four times as many as you are walking, that's dominant. Josh Bagley, one of the weekend starters, has yet to walk a batter after four starts. In the world of BBCOR bats, having a staff that is challenging hitters like that is the path to success.

There's a long way to go, but this team appears built for the long haul.

Dad, those principles of success sound the same as when the boys were 12...1st pitch strikes and strike out more than you walk. Funny what a simple game it can be...at any level.

    Have fun with it !!

Piratefan18......How is Max doing? I was told that he had to have some work done on a knee. If true, I hope things are going well and he is back on the field soon.

Thanks for asking and I will do my best while the HIPPA police are looking over my shoulder. Thanks to the Duke doctors for getting the correct diagnosis and then performing the correct surgery. If this had been done correctly to begin he would be that much more ahead. Anyway, he says that rehab is going so much better and he is looking forward to summer ball. This will probably be his medical reshirt year.

Back to the Braves - they did not get much love in the pre-season but they have worked hard and deserve every bit of the accolades. As Hot Corner Dad said, their pitching has been impressive. Having loss two of their three weekend starters (only Sr. Tyler Wood - Middle Creek returned) and their closer Rudy Brown is currently in the Royals farm system, Coach O'Neil and Coach Simmons have our boys of summer focused. If their defense can tighten up watch out.

Very glad to hear they have the problem corrected. I know it is tough on him not being able to play, but I am sure he will put in the work to get back on the field and be better than ever. Drew is going to UNC-P next year and is looking forward to taking in as many baseball games as possible. I know he will enjoy watching a fellow Spartan on the field.

Have you heard anything about how Charles and Kyle are doing this year? I always like to keep up with the Sanderson boys when possible!!
