Is he willing to donate. TBR's coffers might be a little dusty.

Tim Melville signed this morning with the Royals. Matt Harrison has moved into his dorm on campus, so I assume he has enrolled and planning on playing for the Heels. The only question mark is Lassiter. Coach Fox thinks he's coming, but he is not on campus yet.

Quinton Miller and Garrison Lassiter also signed today, bringing the number to six UNC 08 recruits who have signed pro contracts. Ouch !
This national recruiting approach produced some impressive names, but what is the point if most of the big guns go pro ?

Well, if you don't sign them, you have less chance of getting them on campus.

I think there is such a thing as opportunity cost that comes into play.
Losing six of the original recruits creates a gaping hole in the talent pool.
How do you account for only one pitcher ????

Read on BA where Lassiter got 675K as a 27th round pick... thats 68th overall slot value. Hard to believe

I think slot value pretty much dissappears on the last signing day.
Quinton Miller, a 20th round pick got 900K.

I remember when Daniel Bard was drafted out of HS by the Yankees.

20th round--offered 7 digit money and still turned it down to attend UNC. It worked out well for him.

007- I agree with you. Mike Martin @ FSU had a terrible cycle of signing high draft picks and losing them to the draft. It really hurt his program.

The situation at UNC, in the past, is they signed players that wanted the college experience. I believe that played a huge role in Messer not being drafted. I don't blame a kid that chooses the pro money out of HS, but for most that travel that route, they will never become a college student and miss out on a priceless experience.

Once they turn pro, they are forced to become men. That can be a tough experience for an 18 yo.
