Now who is going to go with him? The article put it pretty clear that he is the force behind going the last three years. Will be fun to see how far they both go next year.

They tried to hire him last year, but the athletic dept gave him a modest raise. They came back this year and opened the check book big time. Chad was making around 60K at UNC and USC offered over 100K; Fox at UNC only makes 135K in salary as opposed to 250k for Tanner at UNC.

Try this on for size. Here are the other salaries for prominent coaches in NC.

    Mike Fox, UNC, $135,000
    Billy Godwin, ECU, $102,500
    Elliott Avent, NC State, $101,807
    Mark Scalf, UNCW, $61,659
    Loren Hibbs, UNC-Charlotte, $60,000

So.....in short, Chad will be making more in salary as an assistant at USC than as a head coach in NC.

They'd have to sit a year if they do so not likely.

That seems a little hard to believe. Are you sure that includes their total compensation. I know Perno the UGA coach just signed a deal that averages $450k a year for 5 years so there must be more to their deals than the above.

    wow

Where in the world did you get those numbers???

That is really surprising. Do they have a listing somewhere on that?

it was reported after the NCAA playoffs that NCSU and Avent had agreed upon an extension of that contract. No details or compensation was disclosed to my knowledge.

if you listen to Holbrooks' (and Tanner's) comments, it's apparent that he's been cultivating a future coaching relationship for years w/ Coach Tanner, and really has a ton of respect for Tanner and the USC program.

A couple of interesting things here:

    1) Carolina (the real one) does not pay their coaches what they deserve. Yes, Fox's salary is comparable to other coaches throughout the state and not at all comparable to the SEC schools. It's a shame considering what he's done for the baseball program, especially in the last 3 years and the new facility they're putting in.

    2) From reading the UNC board, there are a few things that led to Holbrook's departure. The first and obvious is the money situation. This year, at UNC, his wife worked in the basketball department and their son had medical issues. Moving to Columbia, his wife will be closer to her parents and because of the payraise, will not have to work and can stay with their son. Also, Tanner has made it clear he's near the end of the line and Fox is not. Holbrook will obviously be a head coach one day and it looks like the South Carolina job could be set up for him.
