Hey, who is supposed to be strong this coming summer in American Legion baseball. I know that a lot of teams are just now having their meetings, but does anyone have any projections of top teams in NC?

The Area 3 Southern Division has been well-represented in the last 4 state tournaments,,, 2002- Rowan State champs, 2003- Kannapolis Area champs, 2004- Kannapolis Area champs, finished 3rd in state, 2005- Lexington state runnerups.

This summer Lexington returns a very strong nucleus from last season's state runnerup team and has enough quality pitching to make another run. Also, Rowan County was having a great year last season when they got disqualified due to a technicality, so look for them to be taking names this summer. Plus Rowan didn't even have NCState signee Wade Moore last season, but he's returning to play his final season with his buds. Stanly County made it to the 3rd round of the state playoffs last year with 0 (thats right zero) West Stanly HS players, and word is the WS boys will be playing this year which immediately gives Stanly some of the best talent in the league to go with a proven winner for a coach. Mocksville is always strong, and this year Davie HS is once again having an awesome year. Concord has named a very well-respected coach Ronnie Bost who I'm sure will make an immediate impact and 3 of his HS's are having great springs. All in all, the Southern Division of Area 3 could be filled with great games every night. This division is loaded with great pitching and hitting.

Union County will field a legion team again this year after a two year absence. From the looks of the roster I saw they should be strong right out of the box. It should be interesting.

    Pitt County Post 39

Pitt County Post 39 will be back at it this year trying to defend our title against some very good NC teams. It was an honor to represent NC at the regional last year in Dothan and we will play hard again this year.

Just want to publicly thank the GREAT fans and legionaires in Cherryville for their hospitality last year and we hope to see them in High Point.

We will return all but two starters on the pitching staff and will add several including Aubrey Edens who was out last year recouping from his run to the high school state championship.

We will also return all but three starters offensively so it should be fun!

    Good luck to all teams.
