Update: Computer rankings of NC's travel teams (April 15)

Here are the latest computer rankings of NC's travel ball teams through the weekend of April 12-13. Sorry to be runnin' a tad late.

We now have 442 N.C. teams ranked based on 1,964 games played in all of the state's tournament organizations.

Teams' W-L records are based on bracket games and seeding pool games. They do not include pool games that have no effect in seeding.

Scores are from N.C. tournament organizations - ASA, NSA, USSSA, TopGun, GotGame, Crystal Carolina Sports and East Coast Sports, or from other groups when they run a tournament in North Carolina.

We have scores of an estimated 95 percent of games that meet this criteria. We also include scores of a team's out-of-state results if they are reported to us.

The most significant missing tournament is an ASA event recently played in Burlington, or at least we think it was played in Burlington. No sign of it appears online. If you played in it and have brackets, we'd love to hear from you.

8-and-under: The JC Clippers (beast of the east) and Lady Tigers (best of the west) hold down the top two spots. There has been no interaction between 8U teams that have played in TopGun (Lady Tigers, Knockouts) and those that have played in USSSA (JC Clippers), so we won't have a true No. 1 until that happens. Rumor is that a challenge match is being scheduled for Greensboro next month, but no confirmation yet. FYI, four of the Tigers' six losses have come to a South Carolina outfit called the Diamond Backs 05.

10-and-under: The biggest mover this week is the Swamp Shockers of Whiteville - from No. 19 to No. 6. They went 5-0, outscoring their opponents 67-14, in winning TopGun at North Myrtle Beach last weekend. The Shockers lead the state in victories (18) and are unbeaten vs. N.C. teams (both losses to a S.C. team). The Green Machine 03 of Stanfield remains No. 1 after winning TopGun in Concord, outscoring their opponents 52-3. They are the most dominant No. 1 team in any age division, rated to be at least five runs better than any other 10U team. (Note that a projected margin of victory between teams is the difference between their power ratings.)

Team NC/Presley went from No. 58 to No. 10 after winning the NSA event in Statesville. The Diamond Divas 99 of Troy are No. 3 after merely a 3-2 finish in their debut tournament, but it came in the high school division of a TopGun event in Fayetteville. Computer is still trying to make sense of the limited inter-division play that has taken place but is doing a decent job of it. It has determined that the average team in one age division is 5 runs better than the average team in the age division just below it. Remains to be seen if those averages hold.
