wow - Laney proved anybody can win it if they are playing right at the right time of year. A four seed with over ten losses winning the 4A title. Congrats to them and tough loss for East Forsyth.

Tj, you missed a strange game today. In the first inning, East Rowan sents 12 batters to the plate & scores 8 runs, off of 4 hits, 2 errors, 3 walks, & a sacrifice fly Then Hunt sents 10 batters up in the bottom of the first off of 4 hits, an error, & 2 walks. So 14 runs are scored in the first inning between the two teams. To say that pitching was not a strongsuit in this game would be a understatement. Anyways, after about 30 hits, 25 runs, a few walks, errors, sacrifices, and hit batsmen, East Rowan emerged the 2010 3A State Champion. The usual suspects for East Rowan had good games:Troutman (triple & double), Holmes (3-5), & Sapp (2 doubles), but it was the bottom of the order that did the most damage. DH Nathan Fulbright had 3 hits, Justin Morris 3 hits, & Chris Jacobs, & Wesley Leroy both scored twice. These bottom 4 in the line-up scored 9 runs. Hunt battled, & you never felt that the game was over. Parker Lamm & Cody Britt had 3 hits apiece, Zack Lee, Seth Wiggs, & Zach Houchins added 2 hits. There was just alot of hitting, period. In the end, Will Johnson took over in the fifth & faced the last 11 batters of the game & preserved the victory & the championship for the Mustangs. Congratulations East Rowan!

Will Johnson made yet another appearance for the Mustangs yesterday. The following is an exerpt from todays Salisbury Post--- Johnson (7-0) was credited with the win and capped one of the great mound runs in county history. He was called upon in all eight of East's postseason games. He allowed zero earned runs while throwing 20 pressurized innings. He struck out 20 and walked three. -----Great run by Johnson and the Mustangs.

East returns a lot next year. There are only 4 seniors on this team (Allen, Gobbel, Troutman, and Holmes).

Karl, we were talking about that 2nd game last night at a legion game,,,,,,, first I can't believe East's pitching gave up 10 runs, but further I can't believe East's offense scored 15.

Crazy things happen sometimes, thats why you play the games. Both teams had great seasons, but like travis said, East is awful young and their soph class is supposed to be one of the best classes to come thru that school in 15 years.

TJ--I made it out to 5 county stadium yesterday and it was a strange game. Alex Bost will be a really good pitcher at East Rowan (only a soph and he was hitting 82 on the gun yesterday), but you could tell he was nervous. The fly ball Wesley Leroy lost in the sun was a criticle blow that could have possibly help stop the bleeding. Give Hunt credit. It could have been real easy for them to hang their head after the 8 spot but they fought back. I met some folks from Hunt yesterday and they were really nice and real genuine. Thomas Allen gave a gutsy effort coming back after battling an arm injury for the last 4 weeks. His velocity was off a little. He hit 88-89 a couple of times, but was generally around 83-85. You could tell he was a bit rusty, but you also could tell he is a gamer and wanted the ball. Bradley Robbins and Will Johnson are players that have an extremely bright futures ahead of them. Two totally different pitchers (Robbins throws extremely hard for a soph and Johnson has a lot of movement and locates the ball very well.)

East is a team. I'm sure this trickles down from the top. It was like they new they were going to have to score runs in this game to help Bost and they came out and hit and hit and hit. Hunt contributed by committing a few errors, but East is very fast on the bases and forces you to hurry. They hit the ball from top to bottom all day, all series. It will be interesting to see where they end the year ranked nationally (71st in the last poll) and where they will be ranked to begin the season next year in the state. If there is a team returning more in 2011, I would like to see them play.

    It almost isn't fair...

While ER Coach Hightower is clearly the 2nd best coach in this area (huge gap between he and whoever's 3rd),,,, less than 24 hours after winning a state championship, 10-11 ER players reported for duty today to play for the Rowan County American Legion team in which they will now spend the rest of the summer playing for "the best" coach in the area Jim Gantt. It should be no surprise that these players are all so fundamentally sound.

As for East Rowan scoring 24 runs (total) in 2 state final games, it shouldn't be too surprising,,, remember several of these boys have a lot of big game experience as they played for last year's Rowan Legion team that finished 3rd in nation last summer.

Amen to that brother, a lot of teams have a 2 or 3 year run when they are stacked with talent. East is in the mix every year because of coaching.
