The 2004 USA Olympic Softball Team’s “Aiming for Athens” tour will include an Exhibition Game to be played in North Carolina. This tour will lead the Olympic Team to the Olympic Games in Athens, Greece in August. The Olympic Team began their tour on February 20, 2004, in California. The tour has the Olympians traveling over the United States for five months playing exhibition games, most of which are against college teams across the nation. To date, the Olympians have not only won every game but have brought the “mercy rule” into play during many of the games. The talent and skill level of the players on the USA Olympic Softball Team is unsurpassed in the world. The United States brought home the Gold from Atlanta in 1996 and from Sydney in 2000. Expectations are high that the Gold will come home to the United States from Athens later this year.

This exhibition game may be a once-in-a-lifetime event for North Carolina. The whole North Carolina softball community ... from every high school and middle school offering fast pitch softball as a school sport to the summer programs, including ASA, NSA, PONY, USSSA, Little Leagues and Dixie Leagues and rec leagues … has the opportunity to see the USA Olympic Softball Team in action right here in our home state.

This is the only North Carolina appearance for

How were these players chosen? I'm sure there are a lot of very good players around that would have liked to had a chance to play in this game

They're gonna be in Topeka (Kansas) on June 20th and I've already got my ticket! Gonna go with a girl who plays for a collegiate softball team near Salina. Unfortunately, even after being in contact with ASA people, we were not able to get her on the team USA will be playing.
