The 2006 USA Athletes International softball team, lead by Peace College head coach Charlie Dobbins leaves today from New York at 730 pm for the July 25-31 Spanish Cup in Barcelona, Spain. The USA Team will be making its debut next week in the Red, White and Blue when it takes the field against the Spanish National Team and other regional Spanish Federation teams in the Spanish softball series.

This team is composed of those with college eligibility or those who just completed their collegiate eligibility. The team is comprised of fourteen players with nine players from the USA South Conference, headquartered in Fayetteville NC, with the schools regionally located within North Carolina and Virginia.

Amy Faucette, Rebekah Kelly and Jenny Sorensen (Methodist College), Niki Dobbins, Sarah Heenan, and Nicole Shoemaker (Peace College), Libby Fulford (NC Wesleyan College), Meagan Knight (Greensboro College) and CJ McQueen, (Christopher Newport University) round out the USA South representatives.

Jaimee Cassidy and Jody McCurdy (Pfeiffer University), Kylie Childress (Lambuth University) and Mallory Meyer (Widener College) round out the collegiate players. Haley Suitt, (South Granville HS, Oxford NC) completes the roster.

JD McCurdy, head softball coach at Eastern Mennonite University and Rob Faucette, former head coach
with the NC Challengers complete the coaching staff for the U.S.A. Team.

A mixture of familiar and new faces, the 14-member roster will arrive in Spain on Monday ready to represent the USA.

Led by head coach Charlie Dobbins (Raleigh NC, /head coach Peace College) who is making his
Team USA coaching debut, the U.S. opens pool play on Tuesday, July 25 at 6 p.m.

“We have a great group of kids along with a tremendous staff,” said Dobbins. “I love the attitude of this
group and they have been wonderful to work with. We only have a few days here to prepare and the team is adapting but we will be ready to play.”

USA Athletes International, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to giving amateur athletes and coaches
