    The Smokey Mountain Sting traveled to the always friendly Frank Lorino Park in Morristown Tenn. this weekend and took a 1st in the United Southern Girls Fastpitch -- 1st Annual October Classic for Chicks 16U/18U division. The SMS outscored their opponets 55-3.


    Frank Lorino Park is a nice 6-plex - where you can find some great home cooking !


    USGF Director for East Tenn, N.C., and VA. " Fonda King " @ the park.

    I know this has nothing to do with the kids or their accomplishments or the league or this tournament so please don't say I'm trying to take anything away from them....

    but where the heck is that umpire positioned? She appears to be looking over the outside shoulder of the catcher on a right handed batter!!!!!!! On top of that, she's too high to call anything low! WOW!

    About the USGF

    Coach1320 ….. I included some other views of the way she setup. Her inexperience was evident along with some inconsistent calls @ the plate .

    As far as the USGF --- I have no idea if it will make it- I do not think it will be in North Carolina no time soon . A few years ago my daughters team signed up for a tournament that was sanctioned by USFA in Hominy Valley . After noon on Saturday the TD 'Ben Wofford" shows up: and the umps dropped their USFA hats and put on brand new hats - WFC ! I asked the TD -- what is a WFC ? He explained his plan … with World Series and all .. I said to my wife “ He is crazy to leave a national recognized sanctioned league and will never make it ! '' Guess I was wrong …. look @ the crowd he has this weekend .

    One look at the number of teams mentioned playing the WFC tournament mentioned and two things stand out. First - It is in Myrtle Beach and teams love to play at the beach in the Fall. Second - Its a "Showcase" of some sort and when you mix the two together you could sanction it by the XYZ Softball Association and teams would flock to it.
