Admittedly, we've had a tough year with the loss of players to the new school but one team used some of the same players on JV and Varsity to beat us pretty good. And a friend of mine said their school got beat the same way and that the team has been doing it all season. Is there a rule about using players both on JV and Varsity? Sounds like a pretty good formula. And if it is against the rules, would they have to forfeit or is there some other penalty? We'll take wins anyway we can get them.:champagne:

    Not against the rules

High school players can play on both teams as long as they don't exceed the total number of games allowed for the year.

I believe the total is 24 games and you cannot play more than 4 games per week if splitting time between JV and Varsity...other coaches on here please help me out...I think this is right?

    From the NCHSAA Handbook

    NUMBER OF REGULAR SEASON CONTESTS:

No more than four per week, provided fourth single game is on a non school day for both. Four games in three days is still permissible without using a non school day. Total 23 games (including any games played in invitational tournaments). Note: In baseball and softball (due to daily limitations), it is permissible for an athlete to participate in a junior varsity and varsity game in the same day; however, any athlete is still subject to the weekly and seasonal limitations (four games a week, not to exceed three days, total of 23). Baseball (team and individuals) is limited to two games a day. Junior varsity conference tournament games must count toward the 23-game limit; varsity conference tournament games are considered part of the state playoffs.

The 24th game comes in when you play an endowment game. We have dropped juniors down to play a jv game from time to time when they have been setting varsity games to give them some playing time. This is not always an advantage for the jv team. Being a 2A school we always have some sophomores playing up. If they are pitchers, but not quite good enough for the varsity level, they may drop down occasionally during the season to throw a game. Still must adhere to the total game rule though.

The player your referring to whom I will not name is actually a miracle to even be on the field. Watauga has been using him in both Varsity and JV games. From what I hear he asks to pitch as many games as he can JV or Varsity because he just loves to pitch. He begs for the extra work and doesn't care where he gets it. But it's remarkable he's even on the field period after what he has been through. It sounds like the young man just wants to help his program. He has pitched vs East Burke and Freedom and AC Reynolds JV. He threw a one hitter vs East Burke, a no hitter vs Freedom and got the loss vs AC Reynolds. I don't know the final score there. He also started a varsity game at West Wilkes and gave up 3 hits in 5 innings and had 3 strikeouts. I'm getting all this from the Watauga Democrat. Great story on him. www.wataugademocrat.com/2008/0414/0416makingtheadjustment.php
