Not gonna mention any names, but the umpiring this weekend for the Gatorade Spring Championship NIT. My team (the Stealth Baseball Seahawks) won the tourney. But for the first time in i can't even remember how long, the umpiring was superb, expecially in what game turned out to be the championship game ([vs reds]was a round robin tourney). The Reds changed pitchers 4 times in one inning due to us hitting the baseball well and a few walks here and there, and the umpires stuck with us and made the right calls in the field. But a special shout out to the home plate umpire for staying consistent through 4 pitchers! And then even more consistent when we were in the field (and thanks for those pointers too!)It was an exciting weekend in Morganton but it put faith back in my mind for good umpiring in USSSA as a catcher! Great job guys!

Glad to hear that you had a good crew! The guys from the Morganton area are probably the best in the USSSA system.

Oh yeah, but this umpire in particular behind the plate I've had and have watched umpire games for about 2-3 years now, and have never, not 1 time heard someone complain about umpiring. He isn't perfect but dam* near close.

There are good umpires all around this area, while there are some that aren't so good as well! This is my opinion anyway! what I look for in a home plate umpire is consistency through out the ball game. If he has a wide or low strike zone, that's OK, ...... as long as he is consistent. If you are ever lucky enough to get the team of Kevin Bumgardner & his partner Brad, you've got the best in the area. Those guys not only know the game, but will make your game a whole lot more enjoyable as well! Thank guys, for all you do!:guitar:

    The best!

I will second that! You can not get any better. Got to know Kevin in travel ball and he was great with the younger guys and that grow into respect now that they are in high school.

If I could only spell correctly, ....... but then again, with a name like Bumgarner, everyone knows who it is, ..... no matter how you try to spell it!

It is funny that you mention that team of umps,(Kevin & Brad) because that is who it was. It is great to watch them work, they call a game, have fun and teach at the same time. The other 2 umps on field 3 Saturday were also excellent. I wish I had caught their names so they could receive kudos as well. Theese 4 were better than any crew I have seen in 2 years varsity!!!

Haha lmfao, I wasn't gonna mention names becuase they know who they are but yes it was Mr. Bumgarner, and his partner. God I love him behind the plate, always polite to me, and respects when I ask questions as a question instead of some umpires getting offended and accusing me more-less of questioning their authority.
