I see where Wakefield hasn't slowed down a step since the season began. They are the obvious favorites in the East. Good luck the rest of the way...

Are they 3A or 4A? I see Hickory going very far in 3A.IMO....

They would not play against Hickory.

Wakefield should be considered one of the favorites in the 4A East.
Other schools that have a good shot of winning the five in a row in order to represent the 4A East include:
- Undefeated Durham Hillside who eliminated Wakefield last year.
- Once beaten Hope Mills South View and Fayetteveille Westover
- Garner

Teams not in that list, but can beat any one of those on any night include:
Raleigh Broughton
Raleigh Millbrook
Raleigh Southeast
Raleigh Athens Drive

 

What's the latest on Athens Drive? I saw a couple weeks ago in the Raleigh paper that they haven't loss since the Glaxo. Do you think they are a legit threat to make regionals?

 

I Should Have Included Athens Drive

in the "could win on any night" and I have edited my post to reflect it.

They have some fantastic players. Their league (no fault of their own) is down this year so they do not routinely play against teams that have a realistice chance to beat them. Sometimes that can work against teams once they hit the playoffs.

I know that it was earlier in the year, but when they were playing against the Cap-7 in non-conference play, they went 3-4 including a split with Sanderson, a team that went 0-12 in the Cap-7.

They will start the playoffs against Wake Forest-Rolesville, a Cap-7 team they beat twice in their first two games of the season. Wake-Forest Rolesville is a streaky team and that should be an interesting match-up. Athens Drive has a very good draw in the playoffs with no games against any of the other teams mentioned in the list to make it to the final four for the 4A East in Greenville. Once you get there anything can happen, especially with the high caliber players that they have that can take over a game.
