This was one of those threads on TBR you prayed you would never see. I had the pleasure to meet Will a few months ago and it was a 2-minute conversation that I will never forget.

Thoughts and prayers go to the Dicus family during this difficult time.

Prayers go out for this family as they deal with a situation that is too painful for most of us to imagine...

Even though I didn't know this young man it is obvious through my reading on this site that he made those around him better, lived his life with passion and joy, endured his battle with courage and dignity, and was an incredible son, friend and teammate.... what great attributes for us all to immulate.

Thank you Will for being an example for so many.

I am sorry to hear the news. I never met Will or his family, but I know from reading TBR that he was an inspiration to many. His passing is a reminder to all of us parents that our children are the treasures beyond our ability to describe, and as such we need to savor our time with them (on the ballfield and off).

I was attending the Heat Showcase event in Boone this past weekend and had the occasion to be in the Watauga HS press box/team clubhouse. I saw Will's locker and it had a special designation that made it stand out. It may have been placed there by a his teammates or a coach...it doesn't matter. When I saw it I wondered about Will and his health and it was heartwarming to know he was loved by his baseball family. He apparently cast a wide net and many will feel the loss of an outstanding player, friend, teammate and son.

Will meant so much to every single member of our team and our extended team family. He was a true inspiration and a true leader. He is the single strongest person I have ever met. Everyone please pray for the entire Watauga community, because everyone who met him, were touched in a special way.

I am deeply saddened by this news. I never met Will or his family, but have been praying for them since I first saw this posted on TBR. We played against Watauga, so I feel like I have a small connection.

We will all continue to pray for his family and the Watauga baseball family.

A Celebration of Life for Watauga High School student-athlete Will Dicus will be held on Sunday June 7, 2009 at 3:00pm at Boone United Methodist Church. A covered dish dinner will follow at the church. Those attending are asked to bring something to eat for the cover dish dinner. The family requests no food (other than the covered dish on Sunday) or flowers.

Memorial contributions can be made to:
    Watauga Baseball
    c/o WHS Booster Club
    PO Box 1171
    Boone, NC 28607-1171

Contributions are tax deductible and will be receipted.

Early plans are to raise enough money to make a significant contribution to build the indoor batting and pitching facility at the new Watauga High School and name it in Will's honor.
