    Idk about that?

One of the parents of the softball girls from Watauga who went to watch the softball game, which somehow the softball field was fine but the baseball field wasnt, said that the baseball field didnt have a drop of water on it and could've easily been played on. I'm pretty sure it was cancelled because they want Rhoney to pitch vs Watauga.

From reading the paper that would make sense the way Rhoney is throwing, but I think Watauga would have been playing their third game this week and East Burke only their 2nd according to the paper. That seems to be advantage East Burke. So now it seems EB will get the Moore kid who shut out South and Watauga will get Rhoney. Hope Rhoney plays legion ball this summer. With him and Freeman and Johnson from McDowell, is the making of a pretty good staff.

You see thats what I thought until I really thought about it. Watauga would have had Jon Sharpe on the mound. Who is probably their second pitcher. And Burke would have had throw their 2nd. If you face Watauga you are gonna have to have a great pitcher on the mound... not good but great. I think Burke realized this from the fact that they don't want to get in a shootout with Watauga. Their bats are way too strong for that. To beat Watauga you have to have a pitcher hold them to a few because they don't give up alot. If Burke won that game without Rhoney on the mound it was gonna have to be an 11-10 game and I believe Burke realized they don't have the bats to do that. Not to mention Sharpes ERA on the year is down near 2. The fields were fine, and if they weren't then they could have gotten them ready for tonight, especially if soccer and softball played. It makes it look like they were scared which I don't think is the case. But IMO it's going to come back to shoot them in the foot. Now they are going to get Tyler Moore on a weeks rest and if they lose then they have wasted Rhoney on a loss. Not a smart move if you ask me. But I think Watauga has an idea of what could and couldn't have happened and it probably didn't make them happy that their softball and soccer teams both played in Icard today. As always... Im rooting for Watauga.

Not necessarily. If past history has any bearing, it will be Moyer vs EB and Moore vs AC. Both opponents will be 3-1, so I think you have to go with the best matchup for each game. As for EB, they have a bye and Freedom so they won't be wasting Rhoney even if he loses.
What I do not think EB realized was that Sharpe threw alot of pitches Tuesday night, so they were likely to see Watauga's #4 pitcher for half the game. That would have been interesting because I honestly have no idea who Watauga's #4 guy is.

Great point, that was kinda low by EB. But won't Watauga pitch Moore or Sharpe Monday and Tuesday then someone else for non conference on friday and saturday? Then bounce back with Moore on monday vs south.

A couple things to note in this thread.

Sharpe's ERA is the best on the team that has completed a full inning. Two players have ERA's of 0 but have pitched .1 and .2 innings.

    Sharpe's current ERA is 1.50

As far as I know, WHS's fourth pitcher is either Jake Wallace or Austin Story. FYI

Watauga has the best pitching trio they have had in a long time and I'm not trying to debate who is #2. They are all very good. The problem with comparing ERA's is that the pitchers are usually facing different teams, and some offenses are stronger than others.
I like Moyer in Icard mainly because he had a great game against them as a soph in relief. Since most of those guys are gone, it might not be much of a reason other than the confidence factor.
The #4 for Watauga could be Wallace or Story or it could be Dunnigan,Dicus,Littlejohn,Lowder...It just might depend on whoever threw the last great bullpen session.

    east burkes field

the infield dirt could have been ready for the game, but the grass infront of 3rd base was a marsh you step on it and you sink to your ankle. so instead of getting someone hurt way not play another day.
