Who should we be talking about? Who is being counted on for Varsity?

If you would/could name some players (06 and 07) and a recap of their talents

South Caldwell's varsity was so Freshman/Sophomore dominated last year their whole roster is going to need to stay on the radar. Some names to look for are Madison Bumgarner (who played/started legion as a 14 yr old for Caldwell County's state runnerup team and gave Alexander Central their only regular season HS loss), Justin Poovey, Matt Gragg will all be forces in South's pitching core.

South Caldwell has a bumper crop of baseball players comming up for the next few years and add that to the talent at West Caldwell and Hibriten, Caldwell's legion team is going to be scarry too...

South Caldwell is not only stout but are well coached. I met the coach last year at the playoffs against South Meck....very impressive. And Madison Bumgarner was the most impressive freshman I saw last year...and that includes Justin Jackson.

on a side note. I remember watching the coach's young son (appeared to be 5 or 6) throwing a baseball with another coach before the game...wow...he has already made my '15 watch list :laugh1:

    TC Roberson 06/07's

Roberson has two top talents in junior (06) RHP/IF Josh Thrailkill and sophomore (07) SS Justin Jackson. Both are ranked in the Top 100 in their respective class by Baseball America - Thrailkill 22nd and Jackson 49th.

The 6'4'' Thrailkill has excellent command of three pitches and throws in the upper 80's consistently and bumps 90 on occassion. He's 15-3 over his freshman/sophomore seasons and has only walked 19, while striking out 127 in 95 innings. His sophomore season was cut short when he tore his right ACL last April.

Jackson anchored the infield last year as a freshman on Roberson's nationally ranked team. The young SS has great range, soft hands and an outstanding arm. He also excelled at the plate with a .355 batting average and a .468 on base percentage. Justin will team up with junior (06) 2B Mitch Hefner to form one the better MIF combos in the state. Hefner was all conference (MAC) and All Western North Carolina as a sophomore.

Two 07 newcomers to watch are 6'4'' RHP/OF Jonathan Wright and 3B John Ramsey. Both have the talent to contribute at the varsity level this year.

    @ West Henderson

Jerry Brinkley (06) very fast CF with HR power.
Jason Merrill (06) left handed hitting catcher with HR power.
Matthew Pruitt (07) started at SS last yr as a frosh. Hitting 86 on the gun.
Seth Grant (07) started at 2B last yr as a frosh. Complete player.
Josh Moore (08) yes "08". Hit at least 4 shots this fall around 400'. Gonna be very special.
Jonathon Norton (08). Lefty pitcher. Gave up only 8 hits in 26 innings this fall while getting 29k's, including 2 showcase events in SC playing 18/U.

I have a couple of '06's that I think are pretty good:

Robbie Byrd: 6'4, 185 RHP/INF/OF: Robbie has awesome tools, and has pitched and played SS, 3B, and OF in the past 2 seasons. He batted over .400 as a sophomore and I look forward to some really good things from him.

Jarrod Moore: 5'11, 175 RHP/2B: Jarrod came on strong for us last season. We brought him up from the JV team during the conference season and he pitched really well for us as we won 6 games in a row from Easter through the end of the season. Jarrod has good mechanics and locates his pitches well. His velocity should improve as well as his command since he is a hard worker.

Addison Johnson is deserving as arguably the best two way player in our State...but Intimidator Coach mentioned someone who was the best athlete on the 1st place State Games team....Wade Moore. He is big, strong, fast and he will probably be lost to football. But in my opinion Wade Moore is a Top 10 player in the state regardless of class.
