    Look Out For

I am familiar with the kids Coach May listed above and agree that the 07 & 08 class will produce an exceptionally strong group of kids who have had a lot of success in youth National play. I coached an AAU team in the same age group and would like to mention several of the top players who will be making some noise on the varsity level very soon. They were members of the 13U USSSA State Champions and the 13U AAU National Runners-Up.

    Adam Waters Hopewell Freshman
Adam will turn 15 next July. He was an effective player with the Carolina Copperheads 16U team this fall. He has an 80mph arm, runs well and has tremendous power.

    Justin Roland East Rowan Freshman
Justin is only 5'7, but has been clocked at 82 mph. He is lightning quick at SS and explosive at the dish.

    Weston Church West Rowan Sophomore
Weston had a strong year as a freshman on West Rowan's JV team and should contribute on varsity this year. Almost 6'2 at 15, he has a great glove and bat.

    James Johnson West Henderson Freshman
James is a big strong kid, throws 80mph and runs around 7.0 60. He turns 15 next May.

I'm sure Coach May knows these kids also and we look forward to watching them develop in the high school ranks.

Rocket I am familiar with all the kids you listed. Ive seen Rowland pitch several times. My AAU teams faced him three or four times. He is not a big kid but he can pitch. Its alot of fun to see the kids that you watched over the years at the High School level now.

    USSSA CHAMPS

The Carolina Stallions won the 13U Major State Championship in the summer of 2003 in Kernersville. The same group finished 2nd in the Nation at Kinston in AAU in 2003 and played 2004 as 14 Under (Lumber & Lightning).

Since Coach May failed to mention his son by name, I'll do it. Jeff May already has college size at 6', 190. Jeff is primarily a catcher who can really hit for power, and probably throws 80+. Very good knowledge & awareness. His teammates Pratt Maynard & Brice Hursey will also contribute. Brice is a very good utility player who hit well on our AAU team in the leadoff spot. Pratt is also a big kid like Jeff, 5'11", 180 RHP,3b who throws about 82-84 already, and can also hit for power. Those boys are '08. They also have an '07 , Chris Luck, who will be very good if he wants. 86-88 this summer playing with the Midland Redskins. Doesn't turn 16 until July . Keep your ears open for a kid at C.B. Aycock in Wayne County named Garrett Davis. He's an '07 who hit 90+ on the gun in Legion ball this summer. His cousin, Rob Wooten is a RSfr. at UNC. At Rocky Mount , we hated to lose Zack Furl to Lee County, but his dad made a solid career move that none of us would have turned down. The first ever no hitter in the Babe Ruth 14u World Series was thrown by Zack this summer at that tournament in Wilson. His teammate, Ryan Waldrep, a 6'5" 190 lefty, who is a fr. at RMSH follwed that by tossing a two hitter the following night. We also have Grant Johnson, William Barringer, and Chris Berry from that Nash County All-Star 14u team that finished 3rd in the World Series this summer. They are all MIFs with Johnson also able to catch. Nick Hutcheson, a 6'2" 170 catcher will return to play after taking a year off. We hope to regain Edmund Gravely next year, as he is currently attending Rocky Mount Academy. He is a 6'3" 220 power hitter with a lot of potential if he works hard. I'll try to have more later.

Two guys I am sure you have heard of. Garrett Sherrill and Blake Ketner are tremendous pitchers and people. They played for me this fall. They both have great college careers ahead of them but look for these two guys to square off everytime Brown plays Northwest Cabarrus

I've known Blake for years ... great person. Catawba got lucky when they snatched him up.

It's going to be fun watching Garrett this spring. He's one of the biggest catches still remaining out there. There will be a lot of people watching to see which way he goes.

Question: Is basketball (or football) a potential in his future instead of baseball?

    garrett and blake

I talk to these guys quite abit. Coach Gantt is very excited to have Blake. Both are great kids. In my opinion i think garrett is going to lean to football and baseball. He is a great kicker but a dominating presence on the mound. Great Athlete!
