Pitchers & great hitters get their name on here often, so let's start a thread on spectacular defensive plays:

Janna Lewis , CC-Hopewell game made 2 awesome plays at SS today. 1st was laying totally out & back handing a hard hit ground ball. #2 She stretches out & backhands a sharp line drive, robbing a good hit. Really makes us fans appreciate watching, when ya get to see great plays.

Would be nice if we could get some pics on here, but that can be hard to do. Let's hear bout some more.

    Carlee Carpenter

Carlee Carpenter from Bandys was asked to play SS the other day vs Newton-Conover after she pitched a great game. While at SS there was a fly ball hit into the hole or "dead zone" between 3rd, SS, and LF. Carlee got a great jump on the ball and sprinted into the hole to catch the ball in foul ground. Seemed routine for her, but it was truly a great play. This play also turned around Bandys defense as she is such a great leader! Head coach Mike Carpenter should be proud even though he expects those plays....LOL

    Janna Lewis' Second Gem

Again I was a little late but I think you can appreciate the play. A side bar to the photos, is that the gentleman to the left behind the fence is her father, Dan.

    She's a shortstop

"Knees, Arm, Elbow and Ankles are all in great shape". She has always been a shortstop (since 5 years old) but her father had to have a girl behind the plate that could throw girls out trying to steal second when he coached the Comets team so she became a SS/Catcher. She still keeps the gear but Hopewell, Crushers and LBG/Legacy Gold all needed her to be a SS so as a team player she plays where the team needs her to play. I don't think she misses the hot summers underneath all that gear though

    Double Play

St. Stephen's HS & Lady Blues Catcher, Stephanie Simmons made a great diving catch in yesterdays game with Highbriten. Completely horizontal and stretched out, Steph caught the foul 1/3 way down third, got up and doubled off the runner at second to end the inning. Ghost Rider was sleeping on the job, so no pics. Too bad, this was ESPN highlight material. Un-Defeated St. Stephens faces rival Foard this coming week, should be a very good game.:woohoo:
