Agreed, a great game between 2 teams who will see each other again down the road. Btw, it was an assistant coach that was tossed.

    Nuther good hotdog too. :mdrbig:

Agreed on this being a great game, on both sides. And tj's right, it was an assistant that was ejected in the 6th. I'll probably catch some heat on this from the ER fans but I've got to say it, any head coach that sends an assistant out to confront an umpire to keep himself from being tossed is bush league. Is there not a rule that punishes a head coach for this?

Does anyone know the extent of the injury to the ER player? It looked like a pretty bad collision. Hopefully he'll be back on the field soon.

ive always understood that if an asst. gets tossed then the head coach will be suspended. anyone know the truth?

middle creek dropped to 0-3 tonight with a 9-0 loss at home to green hope.

MC is 0-3 for the first time in years.

    Mooresville 14 West Rowan 5
Holcomb 2 hr, McElhany 1 hr

Mooresville started a soph jv pitcher that lasted 2 innings, Steven Calhoun went the final 5 and looked very strong. WR defense looked a little shaky.
Mooresville lost an important peice of their of and pitching rotation when Ryan Brennan broke his hand on a hbp. Hoping for a speedy recovery. WR 3b Teeter was struck in the knee area on a shot to 3b. Hope the injury was not as bad as it looked.

    Lake Norman

Lake Norman won tonight against Alexander Central at home. The win puts the Wildcats now at 2-0. John Stires (So.), started tonight for LKN and went 4 2/3 innings and looked good. Game was close throughout, LKN had taken a 5-1 lead heading into the 5th, AC then came back and tied it at 5. Taylor Thurber (Sr., App St commit), hit a two run homer in the bottom of the inning that eventually held up to be game winner. AC added a run in the 7th with an HR from LaSalle (sp). Joey McAlpin (Sr.) recorded the win, pitching the last two innings. Leading Hitters were Thurber, 2-4 HR and 2RBI's, Jack and Ian Edmiston added a double a piece and Alex Cagide chipped in with a single.

NCHSAA rules has the assistant suspended for two additional games and must complete a sportsman's workshop. Nothing for the head coach. Local policy can add to the length and/or head coach.

Bats definitely came alive including doubles from Honeycutt, Knight and, Calabretta. Lot of guys left on base and a couple of minor base running errors or Weddington scores more. Andrew Knight continues to swing the bat consistently well. He has also thrown out runners attempting to steal in every game (I don't recall a successful steal yet).

Solid defense and pitching continues to be a focus in this young season as Weddington has only given up 5 runs in 3 games. Even in these tight games Coach Poole has removed pitchers at their pre-determined pitch count which should be commended.

It was quite a sight for HS baseball IMO....the East Rowan dugout did not like a ball four call and three coaches came out of the dugout screaming at the umpire (who stared at CF and ignored them). As it was settling down, the coach who got tossed was back near the third base coaches box and then stormed home plate screaming "don't you look at me, don't you look at me" at the umpire who had gazed down that way...now it was on and the coach was bumping the umpire as he laid out his profanity-laced tirade. The ump was motionless and then removed his mask and tossed him. The NWC crowd erupted and then then coach followed the ump who had turned his back to walk away. The field umpire rushed into separate them and there was a minor bump with the coach (accidental). The coach exited the field after tossing his scorebook or charts and then left the ballpark rather quickly, stopping briefly for a "discussion" with a Sheriff's deputy on the sidewalk outside the park.

To the coaches credit, when the East rally ended on a game ending, bases-loaded double play he rushed back on the field to shake hands with the players and coaches from NWC.

That's the way it looked and sounded from right behind the home plate screen....
