    Braves,

I believe that will be a key for all the Sabre pitchers this season. None of the pitchers on their staff have over powering stuff like the Sabre faithful had become use to seeing over the last 10 years. Keeping the ball out of the middle of the plate, limiting the free passes, and trusting the defense is a must.

In Daniel's case, he will find the compitition is far greater than what he had faced for the most part last year and will not be able to over power hitters in this league. Now he must pitch and not just throw. I agree with you, he can become an effective pitcher in the SW4A and will be critical if the Sabres are going to be a player in the league.

Unfortunately, that is where the missing fall work for all of the Sabre staff will most likely rear its ugly head. The Sabres, in the first week of the season, had two starting pitchers walk three or more batters in just one inning. No one on the team has the ability to dial it up for the big K when in a jam. If they are to avoid the big innings, that can not continue, but it is impossible to get back the lost practice time at this point.

That is a far cry from pitchers like Matt Andress who walked three hitters in 70+ innings last season and about 10 for his career.

In another thread you were mentioning all the wonderful things Coach Bagwell has done and is doing with his physcial facility, but the most impressive thing I saw today was how he has taken a group of young men that have next to zero experience at that level and prepared them to play effectively in one of the top leagues in the state. That just did not happen because of the talent of his players. It also did not happen in the three weeks since the official opening of the high school baseball season. The continual teaching and working with that group all fall and winter is very evident.

The Sabres are trying to compete on what is left over and without the benifit of a solid fall program. Sadly, that is evident too.
