    St Stephens 1 11th inning

South Caldwell was up 1-0 in the bottom of the 7th when Patrick Johnson had the only hit of Madison which was a homerun making the game 1-1. South eventually won the game in the top of the 11th on a passed ball.

Fultz is a tough kid. Deceivingly fast and he plays all out. He was hitting the ball great in the fall and he has earned his starting spot. He'll do nothing but get better.

Shelby vs. Crest and Burns vs. Cherryville

Shelby erased an 8-2 deficit with a big sixth inning on its way to a 10-9 victory over rival Crest Wednesday at the Chargers’ field.

The contest was the season opener for both teams.

The Lions’ Garrett Alexander (2-for-3) and Alex Wilson (3-for-4) led their team offensively with a pair of home runs and three RBIs each. Seth Canipe added three hits from the leadoff spot for Shelby (1-0).

Dusty Quattlebaum paced Crest (0-1) at the plate with four hits, including a home run, with two RBIs. Jordan Robinson added three hits and two RBIs for the Chargers, while Nathan Harrill and Blake McFarland contributed two hits each.

Shelby left-hander Andrew White picked up the win in two innings of relief work, yielding just one run. Brett Wease came on to pick up the save.

The Lions were plagued in the early going with five errors — leading to four unearned runs for Crest.

“We didn’t have the start we envisioned, and it looked like we had some nerves about us early on,” Shelby coach Tommy Wease said. “Hopefully this will be a learning tool for us because we didn’t quit.”

Crest’s KurtDoston got the loss in relief. Robinson started and tossed five-plus innings of consistent work for the Chargers.

“Both teams gave each other opportunities to win … ours came early, theirs came late and they capitalized,” Crest coach Steve Hodge said. “I think we were playing a little too much on emotion and that hurt us.”

Shelby travels to Freedom today. The Chargers host Burns Friday.

    Bulldogs drop Cherryville

LAWNDALE — Burns erupted for 16 hits and six home runs in an 11-5 triumph over Cherryville in the season opener for both teams Wednesday.

James Gold led the way for Burns with three hits and two home runs, while Phillip Ruff, Eric Shuford, Adam Izokovic and Kyle Harmon also went deep for the Bulldogs (1-0). Aaron Haynes, Shane Richards and Casey Metcalf contributed two hits each for Burns.

Shuford picked up the win in six innings of work — yielding five hits and three runs with seven strikeouts.

    The Bulldogs visit Crest Friday.

Sorry I did not post sooner, but catching up on classwork... Chris Luck was lights out on this day!! He hit his spots well and with a mid 90's FB blew us away. IN 6 IP he allowed 1 hit with 10 K's and 1 BB. Elliott Tolley (LHP/Anderson Univ) pitched well also with 6 IP, 9 K's and 1 BB. He only allowed 1 earned run as we made 5 errors (3 in the last 2 innings). Our youth and inexperience at key positions showed , but my kids played hard and we have improved greatly over the last few weeks. Our team has potential and has the potential to have a really good season, we have to battle through a tough non-conference schedule though.

Hats off to SG, Coach Ferrell and Coach May, they are very solid!
