Proud Parent of the Hammond Boys and Their Teams

Tonight we had the unique experience of both our boys pitching on the same night, for different high schools, in different locations across town. Michael Hammond started for the Hough JV team at Mooresville. They won 10-2 and they wrapped up their season going 15-1 and he was 5-0 for the season on the mound.

Across town at Hopewell for Senior Night, Justin Hammond pitched the complete game win over Mallard Creek with a final score of 13-1. He faced 16 batters in five innings, missing a perfect game by one hit.

It's been a great season! Now we look forward to the conference tournament and playoffs.

Providence Day 10...Charlotte Country Day 3

    P. Day.314 000 2.....10..12..1
    CCDS…101 010 0......3....6..1

    Pitching:

    CCDS William Frazier 2.2 IP, 8H, 8R, 8ER, 3K, 2BB...LP (7-1)
    CCDS Keisuke Ishekawa 4.1 IP, 4H, 2R, 0ER, 5K, 2BB
    PD Andrew Burnick 4 IP, 4H, 3R, 2ER, 1K, 3BB... WP (2-1)
    PD Kendall Hughes 1.1 2H, 0R, 0ER, 1K, 2BB
    PD J Willen 1.2 IP, 0H, 0R, 0ER, 2K, 1BB

    Hitting:

    CCDS Lee Harrison 1-3, RBI
    CCDS Colin Walls 1-3 RBI
PD Andrew Burnick 1-4 HR, RBI
PD Andrew Pope 2-3, (2) doubles, RBI
    PD Monroe Donneley 2-3, 2RBI

In a very important conference game, Country Day and Providence Day squared off. Previously unbeaten Bucs pitcher William Frazier attempted to battle through a deep calf bruise on his drive leg, but was very ineffective and the Chargers pounced impressively. Andrew Burnick homered in the first and the Chargers strung together four straight hits in the third inning to chase Frazier. Keisuke Ishekawa relieved and did not allow an earned run the rest of the way, striking out five. Bucs sophomore left fielder Patrick Brady continued to flash the leather making his second full-speed diving catch in 10 days. The Chargers Andrew Pope doubled sharply on two occasions and the bottom of the PD order was active, registering 6 hits from the 6-8 hitters. The Bucs go to 17-5 and 8-2 in conference play. Game two of the series is Thursday at 5:00 at Providence Day.

    Charlotte Catholic/Garinger

Charlotte Catholic said farewell to 11 outgoing seniors -- including Alex Jensen, Colin Manning, and Daniel Stewart -- last night as they manhandled a gritty but overmatched Garinger squad 12-1 in front of a large, close to capacity crowd at Jack Hughes Park in Pineville. Led by the hitting of the top of the Cougars order -- Ryan Werkmeister, Eddie Hull, and Jensen -- and Scott Singletary's two hitter, Catholic easily took care of business. The Cougars will finish the regular season on the road against both Charlotte Latin and Harding on Thursday and Friday.

    PD Kendall Hughes 2-3, RBI
    PD Andrew Pope 1-4, double

Country Day returned to form with an 8-2 victory over Providence Day. Tyler Holloway pitched a complete game scattering nine hits and getting stronger and hitting spots as the game continued, striking out six batters over the last three innings. Patrick Brady keyed the attack, working some long counts into three walks and scoring on all three. William Frazier lined a triple into the RF corner to plate the Bucs first run in the top of the 1st inning and the speedy Lee Harrison beat out an infield hit to score Frazier. Colin Walls lined a single to center to bring home the 3rd run in the initial frame. PD battled right back with Andrew Pope leading off with a double and three other hits following. The Bucs turned a nice 1-5-3 DP to minimize the damage. Country Day collected three more runs in the 2nd on a collection of bunts, two singles and walk and a balk. In the sixth, Lee Harrison lined a double down the left field line to plate the speedy Brady from first after his third base on balls. Defensively, right fielder William Frazier made a spectacular diving catch in foul territory, sliding over the bullpen mound as he collided with the 2nd baseman.

The Bucs go to 18-5 and 9-2 in conference play. Game three of the series is Friday at 7:00 at Country Day.
