    SW4A Player of the Year

I agree w TWIG. Robby Bray has to be the POY in the SW4A this year. Only other player I think can challenge is David Mailman who is 6-1 on the mound and has 7 HRs..and he's missed the last 6 games w a bad back. Despite being DH'd for last night, David hurled a beauty at Myers park:CG Shutout, 3-hit, 10-K performance in 5-0 Win.

I've watched this year's South Meck team in a few games. Unfortunately, they all were losses (might he why I haven't gone to many). The problem I have witnessed in those games were a lack of mental toughness. It appears it showed again last night

    Braves,

You can't go wrong with either one of these guys. After watching Robbie last night he brings a lot to the ballpark....both on the field and in the dugout. No doubt who is the Leader on the team...if I had a vote it would be for "Big Stick Bray".....I think he's actually starting to believe he is a hitter...."dang pitchers":twocents:

How does a Coach correct this....can he correct this or is it up to the players to correct?

All I know is, if South Meck does not figure it out by next weeks conference tournament they will be watching the playoffs from the stands this year....the defense is got to step up. :banginghe

Ragsdale Tigers - Mid Piedmont 3-A Conference Champs

    :woohoo: :woot: :woohoo:

    Ragsdale 8
    Randleman 5

Great crowd, great weather, great ball game in Jamestown tonight. Randleman fans showed up in force. Probably one of the biggest crowds I've seen for a ball game at Ragsdale.

Ragsdale took an early 2 run lead of North Carolina bound Randleman starter Ben Bunting. Brian Goodwin started off getting hit by a Bunting pitch. Jason Wallace then brought him home with a two out double. Brent O'Berry then doubled in Wallace. 2-0 Ragsdale after one. Trevor Mullins looked strong the first three innings. He was hitting 86-89 consistently on his fastball. Randleman had only one base runner ( on an error) through the third.

Ragsdale meanwhile scored one more in the second as a Zach Bumgarner single and two errors on the Randleman SS made it 3-0 after two. In the bottom of the third Ragsdale scored 2 ( maybe 3 more times - I had to leave with two outs, runners on the corners and two runs in.) Jason Wallace led off with a walk, O'Berry singled him to third then both players scored on Catlin Carter's 2 RBI single.

Things must have gone bad for Mullins while I left to pick up my son because when I came back it was 6-4 as I got back just in time to see Bunting smack a three run double with one out. Mulliuns finally got out of the inning keeping Bunting on third. Bunting had left the game and Issacs was pitching for Randleman and he set the Tigers down in order in the fifth.

Mullins sandwiched two outs around a walk then gave up a triple off the wall to Issacs. It looked like the ball was gone but it just styaed in the park. Mullins left after 5 2/3 giving the ball over to Catlin Carter. Carter struck out the next batter getting out of the inning without any more damage. In the bottom of the 6th Ragsdale scored two insurance runs as Jason Wallace brought home Ben Vestal who had reached on a single. Tyler Rankin later scored on a two base error as the Randleman catcher tried to pick Brent Oberry off first. He had him dead with a good throw b ut it got into right field and a lazy play and Rankins speed got the run in from 2nd.

Carter then came in and struck out the side ( giving up a harmless walk to Bunting). Carter did that against SW Randolph two weeks ago striking out the last four batters - he is awesome in relief and undefeated as a starter.

Mullins gets his 11th win of the season now at 11-0. He had at least four strikeouts putting over 70 for the season.

Ragsdale is now 10-1 in conference and 21-1 on the season - Asheboro away Friday night then the conference tourney. I have a good feeling this team will go deep in the playoffs.

    West Stanly

West Stanly beat county rival Albemarle High School 19-0 tuesday night. Albemarle had a 13 or 14-5 overall record and was third in the conference before this game, so the "slaughter" was kind of unexpected. The bats were rolling. Quan Sturdivant was 4-4 with a homerun and 3 rbi. Tyler Almond got his 5th win of the year.
West also defeated Unionville-Piedmont on wednesday night 5-1. Matthew Burleson was the winning pitcher moving to 3-0 on the year.
West improves their record to 20-2 (12-1 RRC).

on a side note, the Lyerly kid from Piedmont looked to be a very impressive ballplayer, and I've heard he's having an outstanding year. Does anybody know where he's going to play college ball?

Yes, he did, his brother Aaron graduated in '05 .... and yes, he also played in that series a couple years back. He's a senior this year, and he started one of the games against Rose.
