He is a very good ball player. He's headed to Campbell next year.

CCS vs PDS series, all bets off

Tuesday night, PDS went down the street to take on rival CCS. In this series you best hedge your bets, because whatever you might see on a piece of paper is... useless. Drew Wallace (AKA Wally) of the PDS Chargers battled B Gaines of the CCS Knights. Wally had his A+ game while Gaines seemed to have trouble getting his rhythm. Wally held the Knights to 2 runs on a bunch of ground balls and the Chargers played a solid defensive game. Gaines left at the end of 5, tied 2-2. Soph M Bradley, in relief, got the Chargers 1-2-3 in the 6th. Wally shut em down in the 6th working his way out of a bases loaded jam. In the top of the 7th, Bradley got the first batter but with a 2-0 count to C James, left one up and over too much of the plate. The result was a drive over the left center field fence. The young soph hung in there and got out of the inning without further problems. In the bottom of the 7th, Wally sent the first 2 Knights down, then gave up 2 singles to C Bradley and M Fulginiti before sealing the game by getting K Fulginiti to hit a soft pop-up to first, sealing the game for PDS. The Chargers played a perfect, well coached game and earned a hard fought 3-2 "W".

Thursday night the Knights traveled up Sardis road where the porch is short, the balls carry and, quite frankly anything goes. Muldoon faced off against Bard and and was tagged with 2 quick unearned runs behind defense that looked unlike the game before. Without all the boring details, the Knights worked up a 7-0 lead. In the 4th Muldoon was replaced by #12, PDS football QB and third baseman (sorry don't know the name). Shortly after PDS closed to 7-3 then 7-4. #12 pitched a strong inning or two before surrendering 3 more runs. He also contributed a solo HR to record the last PDS run. On the other side of the diamond, Fronk, Gaines and Bard hit HR's, Fronk also added a 3B ending up 3-4; McVerry had a GR2b, M Fulginiti 2-4 with a GR2b, C Bradley sizzled going 3-4; and K Fulginiti was 2-4. Bard records the win, final score 10-5.

With the series even, the rubber match is Friday night, 7PM @ CCS. Admission is free and the concession stand will be open and well stocked.

    Hickory/West Caldwell, Hickory/Bunker Hill

Sorry for the delay but I have two games...

    Tuesday, May 2
    Hickory-1
    West Caldwell-0

Clay Smith was the defense for the Tornadoes and Derek Boliek provided the offense. Smith gave up 3 hits while striking out 17. Derek Boliek provided the only run in the game by hitting a homerun in the top of the 3rd. This was a very good game and an exciting one to watch.

    Thursday, May 4
    Hickory-14
    Bunker Hill-5

Austin Johnson got the win for the Tornadoes with a little help from his offense. The Tornadoes banged out 16 hits including 4 homeruns. In the top of the 4th, Tayler Middleon led off with a solo shot to left. With one out, Ben Gibbs hit a homerun to left which took Chase Patterson (BH starter) out of the game. Derek Boliek then greeted Matt Sheffield by hitting a homerun to deep center. In the 6th, Clay Smith hit Hickory's 4th homerun over the right field fence. Leading hitters for the Tornadoes were Derek Boliek and Clay Smith. Boliek went 3/4 with a HR, 2 2B's, 3 RBI's, and 3 runs, and Smith went 3/4 with a HR and 3 RBI's. With this win, Hickory is in a very good spot to receive a wild-card bid in the playoffs. Hickory will face Bunker Hill again on Monday in the first round of the conference tournament.

Kannapolis beat Porter Ridge last nite 11-5. Brian Little was the winning pitcher & contibuted a 3 run homer. This could cause a 2, 3 or 4 way tie for second if the Wonders can go to Piedmont tonite & pull off a victory.
