NW CABARRUS WINS THE NPC TITLE!!!!!!!!!:trophy: :ylsuper:

Another grueling pitchers duel between Blake Ketner and Garrett Sherrill that ended with Jerrod Faggart coming hard down the third-base line on Nick Daniel's grounder to short. Kyle Seager had just been called out trying to score and win the game on a wild pitch but this time Faggart was called safe and the game and the NPC Championship belonged to the Trojans!!!!

The game began with Ketner again seeing 1st inning trouble when Sherrill singled and Ryan Query homered to put the Wonders ahead 2-0. Then Sherrill settled into a groove until the 4th; with 2 outs Jake Faggart walked and then Kyle Seager hit a bomb to right to tie the score at 2-2 (sound familiar?).

It stayed that way until the 8th inning; after Ketner struck out the side, Sherrill gave up a lead-off walk to Seager, followed by a hard bunt between the pitcher and 1B that let Jerrod Faggart get safely to 1st. Ketner then bounced one off of Sherrill to load the bases with all hands safe. Nick Daniels quickly went down 0-2 but kept battling off pitches. Seager was thrown out at home on a wild pitch/passed ball that set up Faggart's heroics on Daniels' grounder.

NCAA scouts were on hand to see Sherrill and Seager and they got thier money's worth. HATS OFF TO EMPSY (can you say, "Coach of the Year?) THOMPSON'S WONDERS!!!!! Just like the first game, it's a shame someone had to lose this one!!!!

    UNOFFICIAL RESULTS:
    PITCHING:
    Ketner(WP) 8 IP, 6H, 2ER, 12K

    Sherrill(LP) 7.1 IP, 6H, 2ER, 8K

    HITTING:
    Seager, 2-2, 2 walks, 2B, HR, 2 RBI
    Daniels, 1-3, GWRBI

    Query, 3-3, HR, 2 RBI

NEXT UP: The (19-5) NPC Conference champs face Lake Norman Monday at home for the 1st round of the NPC tourney.

Here's your upset special of the week: SWF 3A Fred T Foard 11 Kings Mountain 0. No, that's not a misprint. Foard banged out 14 hits and, oh by the way, sophmore Aaron King no hit the Mountaineers. A season of misery forgotten on this special Senior Night.

Congratulations to the NW Cabarrus Trojans. Ketner is the real deal. I knew we were in trouble the way the 8th inning started.

Like you said, it was a tough one to lose. But NWC did what they had to do to win. My hats off to a great baseball team.

    Piedmont Baseball

Piedmont baseball won tonight vs Hickory Grove 8-0. Timmy King threw a 15 strikeout, no hit performance on the mound for Piedmont. Rob Lyerly hit a grand slam to put the score from 4-0 to 8-0. Piedmont will most likely play SE Guilford in the first round of the 3A state playoffs at home (depending who won tonight between Ragsdale and SE). The South Piedmont Conference Championship starts Tuesday night @ Sun Valley, Piedmont has a first round bye. Timmy King is now 9-0 in 54 innings with a .379 ERA and 103 strikeouts.
