    Olympic over Garinger

Olympic gets the win tonight at Garinger. Brandon Hill was on the mound for Olympic and gets the "W". He's 5-0 for the season. He truly is a miracle!!

Now, as far as Garinger goes..........they are very much improved!!!! Their lefty pitcher had our boys off stride for the 1st couple innings before he tired. Their 3rd baseman, SS, LF and CF made some phenomenal plays. Hats off to the Wildcats and may they continue to improve.

Olympic finishes the season 14-6 overall and 8-6 in conference. The Trojans next play at 5:30PM Monday at Providence against Butler in the first round of the SW4A conference tournament. Later...RSPM:woot: :woot: :woohoo: :woohoo:

RSPM Your boys get to play the Bulldogs again. They defeated South once this season, so B.B. has the #5 seed. Best of luck. I'm pleased to see Brandon back
in action and having success. Good for him.:thud:

    South Meck 2 Providence 1 (8 innings)

This is the second time these arch-rivals have met this season and the second time South Meck has come out on top in extra innings. Ryan Morris (SM) and Mitch Besselievre (PHS) locked up in a tremendous pitchers' duel, each allowing 3 hits. Matt Andress came on in relief for SM in the seventh and wound up getting the Win. Besselievre was the hard-luck Loser. Both teams played tremendous defense the entire game, but PHS (uncharacteristically) had two very costly infield errors in the eighth that did them in. The Winning Run scored when a screaming grounder got thru a Panther infielder and SM's pinch-runner scored from 2nd base on the play. The throw from the outfield had him by six feet, but the runner eluded the tag at the plate.

It was a tense game played by two Playoff-Bound teams. Games between these teams are always fun to watch and are loaded with key plays. The Panthers hope to get redemption in the SW4A Tournament Championship Game.

    Hickory 3 RS Central 2

    WP - Greg Baker - 2/3 IP, 1 H, 2 Ks
    LP - Andy Hutchins

With 1 out in the bottom of the 7th, Wilson Boyd's fly ball to center was misplayed for a 2 base error. RS Central then chose to intentionally walk Isaac Harrow to get to Derrick Boliek. Bolick delivered a sharp single to right that drove home Boyd with the winning run.

Hickory completed SWF conference play at 9-3 and 18-5 overall. After a 1-3 conference start, Hickory won 8 conference games in a row. Hickory's win streak is now 9 games.

Hickory's victory, combined with Fred T. Foard's 11-0 win over Kings Mountain and Burns 5-1 win over Crest, gives the Tornadoes the SWF regular season championship and the number 1 conference seed for the state tournament. Burns, Crest and Kings Mountain finish conference play tied for 2nd place at 8-4.

A few more details about last nights game...

Central Cabarrus jumped out to an immediate 1-0 lead in the 1st inning. They came out stroking the ball (as usual). Killian started on the mound for Cental and, early on, it looked like he had North's number for the night. Zack Rosenbaum started for North Meck.

In the first, the lead off batter for Central reached, coming around to score on a two-out double. North answered back in the 2nd with it's own lead-off double who was immediately driven in by the next hitter.

Both sides when quietly in the 3rd. It the bottom of the 4th, Mazzetti hit a solo shot to dead-center, (which is quite a poke at the roomy field at North), but Central answered immediately with a solo shot of their own in the top of the 5th leaving it knotted again at 2-2. In the bottom of the 5th, North looked to be getting to Killian a bit with multiple hard hit balls up and down the lineup. Two runs were plated, but Central escaped further damage on a GREAT play by the 2nd baseman, who snared a line-drive and turned it into a double play.

With North up 4-2, Central bounced back in the top of the 6th. Two BB and a double with two outs lead to a tie score at 4-4 at the end of the inning. Porter relieved Rosenbaum in the 6th. Parmer came out to relieve Killian in the bottom of the 6th, but North looked ready for him as they plated 4 runs. The big blow in the bottom of the 6th came off the bat of Greensboro College bound Greg Allen. Greg stepped in to pinch-hit with runners on and drove the ball hard up the middle for 2 RBI's and a 2-run lead that North wouldn't relinquish. In the top of the 7th, Central went down in order, but not without a fight. North's second baseman, John Kellett snared a line-drive off the bat of Ryan Brown to end the game.

Both teams struck the ball hard. Central does not know how to quit (durn it). They play the game hard for every out. It was an extremely well played game by both teams with only one error in the entire contest.

    WP: Porter
    LP: Parmer

    Meca 8 Standings:
    1) North Meck 12-2, 18-4
    2) Independence 11-3, 15-5-1
    2) Hopewell 11-3, 13-6
    4) Central Cabarrus 10-4, 16-5

It looks like (barring an upset win by West Meck) you will have a repeat of this weeks games again on wednesday. Indy and Hopewell should cross-swords again, while North and Central pull out the battle axes as round #3 starts. Round 3 will be at Hopewell this coming Wednesday as (probably) 4 very tough teams do battle again for a night.

Like I have said all year, I don't think there are many (any) better pitchers than Junior Tim King. I know he does not throw 95 mph but he gets people out. His curveball is the best I have ever seen. (9-0) with an ERA of .38 with a strikeout/inning ratio of 1.91 is pretty good.
