    I-MECK Semifinals...

    Lake Norman 50
    Mallard Creek 33

With the IMECK finishing in a 3-way tie, this is significant in that Mallard Creek could now be a #3 seed, that would be if Hopewell advanced tonight. The IMECK #3 will travel to the MAC #1 on Monday. If Hopewell also lost, then you would have a play-in game at some point.

That pretty much sets Mallard Creek as the #3 from the IMECK, last year's regional participant will be on the road at either McDowell or AC Reynolds on Monday.

Asheville will take on Erwin tomorrow night in the 3A championship game (6:30 at North Buncombe). The Lady Cougars could get an unexpected playoff berth if they were to pull off another upset.

McDowell girls beat AC Reynolds in 2OT. Think the final was 69-66.

Wow...an awesome win for McDowell after losing their two best players to ACL injuries in the past two games.

Jon you should have seen it in color. One of the best McDowell wins I have ever witnessed. :08:

An absolute classic tonight between McDowell and AC Reynolds...for this senior class, I'll remember this game as much as any game they've ever been a part of...(that is unless we make an incredible run through the playoffs this year).

The effort given by both teams was tremendous...Reynolds played their hearts out as much as we did. The biggest factor IMO was the defensive job Mary Webb did on Reynolds point guard Karlee Taylor. Webb, in her first ever start, challenged Taylor every single possession. I honestly can't remember of a single open shot all night that she took. Jessica Farmer is one heck of the player for the Lady Rockets. With us not having Ward or Brackett in the lineup, it gives Farmer a huge advantage. That's why the decision by McDowell coach Brian Franklin to focus more on Taylor and Brinkley was a stroke of genius. He went with the best philosophy for what players he had available.

All in all, I am so proud in this team and how they performed tonight...the atmosphere tonight in Titan Gym was electric, I'm sure the girls fed off that influence.

With all that now over, the focus turns to the first round of the sectionals on Monday...it looks like we got Mallard Creek.

    McDowell Leading Scorers:

    Xandi Gellman: 26 points
    Jaalen Corpening: 20 points

    AC Reynolds Leading Scorers:

    Karlee Taylor: 18 points
    Jessica Farmer: 18 points
