Hopefully the administration at Huss and the league will do something to this coach. An opposing coach should never touch a player in this manner. I would suspend the coach for the rest of the season and then put him on probation the following season. I've never seen the Huss coach, but Spikes is a huge kid - what was he thinking. I'll take Spikes with a TKO in the first round.
I would like to see Crest back in the NW4A. If Watauga was not in our conference the travel time to the other schools would be reasonable. Here is how the NW4A could look:
    Crest
    McDowell
    Freedom
    East Burke
    South Caldwell
    Reynolds
TC Roberson (soon to be 4A)
    Just something to think about?

That sounds like a good conference but I don't see it happening. I think with all the schools in the Charlotte/Gaston area, Crest will stay down there. Burke County is building a new school, it should be 3-A and drop East Burke to 3-A. With the success that the CVAC 3-A/2-A league has had, it would make sense in the next realignment to do more combo leauges. Reynolds wants less travel and would love to be in a split league with the other Asheville schools. That could leave a possibilty of Crest coming back into the league. Like I said, combo leagues make sense but the state usually does things that don't make sense.

What about Alexander Central? It is actually a longer drive than Watauga from some schools. What conference would they be in?

If the DPI projections are correct, the number of High school kids in Cleveland County is going to drop over the next 10 years. If that happens Crest may end up back in 3A.

If they do then Crest is in a con that would be...
    Crest
    Shelby
    Burns
    Kings Mountain
    Chase
    RS Central
    East Rutherford

I still say, esp with numbers going down, Cleveland County builds 2 new High Schools in Cleveland County. One in the West and One in the East, one of the current High Schools becomes a Tech High, and the rest of the High Schools become Middle Schools. Cleveland County wouldn't have to worry about crowded schools for a long time, and you can address some of things that the High Schools are missing as a whole.

So that would mean 2 4A schools in Cleveland County and a 1A or 2A Tech High.

Central Piedmont 4A (Davie County, West Forsyth etc...) would be an option for Alexander Central.

They get the shaft no matter what conference they would be in, travelwise. Unless there is a 3A conference that they could be in under a split format. I guess that is the downfall of being a county that only has one high school surounded by counties that have more than one high school. However, there are 1A, 2A, and 3A conferences that have schools that have to travel just as far as some of the schools in the NW4A and sometimes farther (think Murphy, Avery, Mtn Heritage, and some teams in the central part of the state have a pretty good ride on some of their away games), so it is definitely not a perfect system.
