    Fred T Foard 9 Newton 4

The Tiger offense was a little slow getting going but came up some big hits late to put away a pesky Red Devil team in the first round of the CVAC conference tournament. Leading the way for the Tigers were Trent Rothlin (2-4, HR), Brian Dice (2-3), Aaron King (1-2, HR), and Tyler Buchanan (1-2, HR). But perhaps the biggest hit of them all came off the bat of Chris Reynolds in the bottom of the 6th when he hit a three run home run in his only at bat of the game. Foard finished with 10 hits as a team.

Andrew Wyant pitched 6 innings for the victory scattering 6 hits while striking out 7 and giving up one earned run. Ben Lilly pitched a scoreless 7th to finish it up.

Next for Foard (22-3) will be St. Stephens today at 4:30 in the semi-finals. The game will be played at Bunker Hill High School.

    Lumberton 5 Cape Fear 4

The Two Rivers is not a strong conference but it may well be the goofiest ever. Last night #4 Pine Forest beat #1 South View 1-0. Then #3 Lumberton beat #2 Cape Fear 5-4 in eight innings despite only getting three singles in the game. The game was tied 1-1 after six with Lumberton lefty Tre Britt working out of jams and Cape Fear's Travis Horne shutting Lumberton down. LUM SCRATCHED across a run in the top of the seventh but closer Ransom could not hold the lead giving up a tieing run with two outs. Cape Fear then fell apart on defense in the eighth making three errors leading to three runs. In the bottom of the eighth, Ransom walked the first two and gave up hard singles to make it 5-4 and LUM turned to recently called up SOPH John Thompson to make his varsity debut. Thompson calmly got a K and a groundout to end the game. LUM and PF now play for the playoff berth and CF hopes for a wildcard.

    Fred T Foard 1 St. Stephens 0

Brian Dice's RBI groundout in the first scored JT Wharton and that was all that ace Trent Rothlin needed as the Tigers edged the Indians. Rothlin went the distance giving up only 2 hits while striking out 10 and walking two.

Foard only had 3 hits with Wharton collecting two and Dice had one. It was a very well pitched game on both sides with the defenses making plays.

Foard (23-3) will now face Bandys in the finals of the CVAC conference tournament on Thursday night at Bunker Hill.
