    Hopewell HS wins MECA-6 Tournament

Hopewell is the MECA-6 Tournament Champions after defeating Central Cabarrus 6-0.

Sr. Stanton Smith pitched a complete game shut out allowing only 3 hits and a BB.

Jr. Michael Vaughn went 3/3, 2B & BB and was blazing in the tournament as he went 6/7 for the tournament and added in a 3 run HR in the semi-final game against North Meck. Sr. Andy Oliver went 4/4 in the final and was also on fire as he went 6/8 in the 2 tournament games (Hopewell had a bye in the first round). Other hitters of note in the tournament finals were Sr. Chris Sharp who also went 3/3, Jr. Zach Turton 2/4 and So. Adam Waters, Sr. Matt Cochran and So. Cody Murtle who all went 1/3.

CCS takes game 2 at home, behind Patrick McNair 9-1 to capture at least a share of the conference crown. Hopefully Hotbox can post a boxscore.

Tomorrow's game is @ 5PM at CCDS which is basically at the corner of Fairview and Carmel Roads.

    SG vs SA

Southern Alamance defeated South Granville 4-3 in 8 innings in Creedmoor to with the MidEast 3-A tourney title tonight. Also on the line was the #1 seed in the playoffs since both teams finished in a tie for first place in the regular season. South Granville will be the #2 seed in the playoffs and will play a wild card while SA gets the #2 out of the Cape Fear Valley 3-A conference.

It was a heck of a game that neither team deserved to loose. Chris Luck got his first start of the year and pitched a great game. SA started Crawford and then threw two lefties to finish it out with Rogers getting the win. Mike Robbins was the hard luck looser on the hill for SG coming on to pitch the 8th and gave up 1 run. SG held a 3 run lead into the 5th inning when SA got two solo HR's to make it 3-2. SA scored 1 in the top of the seventh to tie the game and then won it in the top of the 8th. I left the score book in the dug out but Haynes was 2-3 with a HR and Dbl , Maynard was 1-3 with a 2run HR for SG.

Both teams played great defense all night long and it was an intense hard fought game by both teams. My hats off to SA they played a great game.
