Knights capitalize on errors, baserunning blunder in nonconference game.

    The difference was defense.
Ardrey Kell High played it well, and beat sloppy-fielding Olympic 4-0 in a nonconference baseball game Tuesday night.
The Knights capitalized on five fielding errors and a huge baserunning blunder to improve to 3-0.
Starter Ryan Butler (five innings) combined with Austin Machicote and Ashton Lover on a five-hit shutout.
“With these guys behind me, I feel like I can throw anything I need to,” said Butler (1-0), who struck out seven. “My confidence was rising throughout the game. I focused on not worrying about the baserunners.”
Butler stranded six Olympic runners in the first three innings.
Ardrey Kell went ahead 1-0 in the third when Josh Case was hit by a pitch, moved to second on a wild pickoff throw, to third on a grounder and scored on Cody Shelton's ground single to center.
The Knights went ahead 2-0 in the sixth when Olympic dropped a throw to first and a lazy fly to right field.
Olympic's biggest miscue came in the sixth. Phillip Tetterton beat out an infield single to load the bases with two outs, but Andy Farrington and Corey Roberts ended up on third base on the play. Farrington was tagged out in the confusion to end the rally.
Roberts (0-1), the hard-luck loser, struck out 10. Three of the four runs he allowed were unearned.
“Corey is as good as anybody around, so we knew we were in for a close game,” Ardrey Kell coach Hal Bagwell said. “We talked about putting it in play and felt our defense would win out over their defense.”
Olympic (0-2) stranded six runners in scoring position.
“We didn't play well defensively, didn't run the bases very well and couldn't move people up with the bunt,” Olympic coach Bob Rhodes said. “We just didn't play good fundamental baseball. We had a guy (Roberts) pitch a great game, and we didn't support him very well.”

Lake Norman's ace Nick Lomascola (2009 Catawba Signee) threw 6 1/3 of no hit, shutout baseball while allowing 2 walks. He was relieved by Ross Whitley(2009 Catawba Signee) who struckout 2 of the 3 batters he faced while giving up 1 walk.

Charlotte Catholic 8 South Meck 2

South Meck once again scored early with another bomb from Derrick Rowe (#3) to get things started in the first inning. Danny Vilet started for Catholic and after Deuce Wright got the Sabres second hit of the game, Violet settled down until giving up an RBI single to Spencer Shuey late in the game. Vilet pitched a great game, going the distance while allowing only three hits, 2 runs while striking out 3. Harrison Hood started for the Sabres and threw 5 very strong innings while allowing only 2 hits and one unearned run. Hood left the game with score tied at one each. He also struck out 3. Catholic exploded with 7 runs in the sixth inning to put this one away early.

Northwood continues to roll with a win tonight over Jordan Mathews 11-1.
Highlights of the game were first, Jon Polak's second two homerun game of the season, giving him four in three games, second was Matt Wade's bomb and third was Clay Martin's grandslam... second for him this year!

East Meck 15 East Gaston 5

    EG....................5.....5.....4

    EM..................15.....12....4

    Winning Pitcher: Lou Trosch (2011)......5 IP; 5 H; 5 R; 1 ER; 5 K

    Losing Pitcher: DJ Brown

    Leading Hitters: EM - Christian Lee 3-4 (2 RBI); Leighton Daniels (2010) 2-2 (3 RS/2 RBI); David Daniels (2011) 2-3 (2RS).
    EG - Trey Deason 2-3 (2B).

The Daniels boys lead the Eagles to their second victory of the season behind solid pitching from sophomore Lou Trosch. The Eagles field with the new fence is everthing that Braves stated and the playing surface is second to no one in the state.

Just realized minmci posted game on SW4A "LIVE"

    Not the official book.

    EM (2-2)
