He looked very good as well as Chadwick. Shows why in my mind the W-L for pitchers can be one of the most misleading stats available. In HS ball, it seems even less important than in the pros where you've got a couple more innings.

I assume scouts look more at the fielding independent stats (K rate, K/BB, WHIP, FB/GB, etc.) and tools rather than even considering W-L at the high school level.

The scouting community as a whole doesn't spend a lot of energy on stats in general. Many a conversation about that on this board. High School stats as a whole can't really be trusted based on who is doing them for the team. Now W-L is a fairly easy stat to figure out, but teams win or lose games, the pitcher just gets the credit either way. What about the guy who pitches his brains out and gets a no-decision?

What they are looking for in a pitcher----Grades, projectability, ability to throw strikes, mound presence, maturity, velo, ball movement, a good change up, looseness, the ability to win and compete (not necessarily measured in actual wins).

    Agreed

BINGO...and there were 3 colleges scouts watching. Good for him. He hit 88 sometimes, sitting 84-85 mostly. Good breaking pitches.

MR's pitcher, Chadwick's best pitch is probably his chgup. Really nice fade on that pitch. A better breaking pitch would really make him more dangerous. Nice win for him. Didn't get many "pressure pitch" calls for strikes by Mr. Umpire. As a pitcher he had better composure than his fans. Another compliment to him.

(A "pressure pitch" is one that starts in the zone, and ends up outside or on the edge of the strike zone. "Freeze pitch" is the opposite.)

Stopped after 1/2 inning due to storm. Will resume play tomorrow at 1:00. Have been told will pick up where the left off. Charlie Gordon pitching great. One base runner got on by error at ss but runner was caught stealing. So 3 up 3 down.

    Hopewell vs Hough

    Hopewell 0
    Hough 3

    Spencer Venator WP complete game

Another I-Meck conference game well played by both teams.
Both sides made defensive stops all night--great catches to end or kill innings.

    Hough 3....Hopewell 0

    Hopewell....000 000 0....0...3...2
    Hough.......102 000 x....3...6...1

    WP: Spencer Vanator

    Hough hitting:

    Jared Sobo 2-2, 2 runs
    Jacob Buchanan 2-3, RBI
    Pierce Suttles 1-2, RBI
    Nick Bernardo 1-2, 2B, RBI

    Hopewell hitting:

    Joe Bertone 2-3

Hough continues it's climb back from early season disappointments and shows solid pitching and timely hitting, winning for the second time this week vs. the Hopewell Titans. Spencer Vanator had Hopewell covered all night, only allowing 3 hits and walking none, earning the complete game victory. Hough got good production from the top of the order with Jared Sobo and Jacob Buchanan going 4-5 combined, with Sobo collecting two of the three Hough runs. Nick Bernardo roped a double to right centerfield...it was the hardest hit ball all night and the only ball hit by either team to travel beyond the outfielders. Very few K's on either side as the game produced many groundouts and routine fly balls.

Hough's pitching could take them a long way....
