    Piedmont 3 Sun Valley 2

Rob Lyerly pitched a complete game 4 hitter (2 hitter coming into the 7th) while striking out 6. Both runs were unearned.

Danny Hermann hit his 4th homerun (2 run) in 3 games, in the first. Dallas Tarelton had a game winning solo shot in the 6th.

Chuck Hargett pitched a great game for Sun Valley after the 2nd inning, his only mistake being the HR by Tarelton.

Piedmont (8-0, 3-0) made a lot of mental mistakes both on the base paths and in the field but came through in the late innings. Dallas has beaten Sun Valley two years in a row with a late inning HR.

The pitching staff has now given up only 4 earned runs over the first 50 innings. Tim King (3-0) is the #1 on the staff but Lyerly (3-0), Bryan Parker (1-0) and Scott Estes (1-0) all have pitched well. Parker and Lyerly have not given up an earned run. In the first 8 games Piedmont has 6 complete games.

Piedmont has Parkwood (Tues. away), Charlotte Christian (Wed. @ home) and Concord (Thurs. @ home) next week.

I've seen this youngster pitch too. He's definitely a keeper and one to watch the next couple of years.

Good to hear that Rob is doing well. We remember the Lyerly family from our days playing against the UC teams during our AAU days (actually even earlier than that).......good people.

    Central Cabarrus 6 - Hopewell 4

Tough loss for Hopewell, good win for Central....White was the losing pitcher for Hopewell; Parmer (sp??) was the winning pitcher for Central...CC jumped out early with strong bats in the 1st inning, scoring 3...then White settled down and even though giving up some scattered hits, didn't allow any more runs until the 6th...Even though Hopewell's bats were stronger this game then they had been the last couple of games, Central had some key hits that produced runs...Both teams played pretty good defense...difference in the game was stranded runners by Hopewell and some really bad base running mistakes that costs Hopewell several runs...hats off to Central - they came to play (as usual) and won the dog-fight this round....things don't get any easier for Hopewell as they have 3 games next week in three days...the young Titans, along with the experienced Titans are going to have to pull together and keep working to hopefully win some upcoming key conference games.
