    Saint 3 (7-2, 3-1 NW3A/4A)
    Foard 0 (??, 1-4 NW3A/4A)

    WP - Greg Lucas (2-1)
    LP - Jordan Fulbright

Greg Lucas and Jordan Fulbright faced off in a pitcher's duel Tuesday night at Fred T. Foard. The 2 traded scoreless frames until the 6th inning. Dillion Spencer (1-3, run scored) led off the St. Stephens half of the inning with a single to left field and Dylan Beiland (1-2, RBI, run scored) was hit by a pitch. Fulbright struck out Phillip Carroll looking for the first out. Spencer and Beiland moved up on a balk by the Tiger pitcher. Lucas connected on a 3-0 fastball to left field for a sacrifice fly scoring Spencer. Beiland stole 3rd and then scored Saint's second run on an errant throw by Brandon Owensby.

The Indians tacked on an insurance run in the top of the 7th. Kyrawn Whitfield (1-3, run scored) led off with a single. Spencer laid down a sacrifice bunt and reached base on a fielding error by Foard relief pitcher Carson Bryant. Whitfield advanced to 3rd on a throwing error by Bryant. Beiland then scored Whitfield with a deep sacrifice fly to center field.

Lucas allowed only 1 hit and 1 walk, facing one batter over the minimum on the evening. He struck out 9 including 3 each in the 2nd and 5th innings.

Fulbright was the tough luck loser throwing 6 innings. He scattered 3 hits while walking 3 and striking out 7.

Logan Gray added a single for the Indians while Justin Wike went 1-3 for the Tigers.

St. Stephens hosts Hickory High on Friday night at 6:30.

Fred T Foard travels to Kings Mountain on Wednesday for a non-conference matchup.

    AK 6 Butler 3

ough luck loss for Butler's Matthew Baltimore giving up 2 earned and losing 6-3 at AK. Butler went up 3-0 in the first after Andrew Moser hit a run scoring single. Dalton Eisenbath followed with a 2 run homer to left to make it 3-0. AK scored a run in the bottom of the first with a rbi single by Trent Thornton. Going into the bottom of the fourth leading 3-1, things went south for the Bulldogs. Multiple errors turned into unearned runs and AK's pitchers Beehler (winning pitcher) and French finished off the Bulldogs. Butler host Providence on Friday, a must win to stay in the mix in the competetive SW4A race.

Consider yourself lucky if you're playing this week. Central NC/Southern Wake County especially is getting hammered this week with rain. We (Middle Creek HS) have had 2 conference games rained out. One will be made up tomorrow night against Fuquay and one is scheduled for Friday night. Neither look like they will be played due to the weather forecast. We will be playing 3 or more conference games a week rest of the season.

    Talk about a momentum killer...

Porter Ridge 4-3 over Weddington. A nice win for them after not performing well the night before.

Hoinkis (sp?) 3 run HR in the 3rd. Sergio Patsy with the complete game.

Game played at 4:30 to miss the rain.

    South Meck 10 Hough 9

Hough scored 2 in the 3rd and 6 more in the top of the 4th to take a commanding 8-0 lead. It looked like the game was all but over.

Then South Meck answered with TEN RUNS in the bottom of the 4th and hung on for dear life to win an ugly game 10-9.

There were plenty of miscues and walks and some nice hitting too. Too much detail to even begin to document here. I'm not sure who even got the win for pete's sake!

I'm not much for bashing umpires but the guy behind the plate tonight had every player, coach and fan at wits end. He called balls that were balls, strikes. He called balls that were strikes, balls. He called the same pitch a strike three times in a row and then flip flopped and called that exact same pitch a ball the next three times. He was consistently inconsistent! During the 16 run debacle of a fourth inning the Hough coach decided to forego "not arguing balls and strikes" and gave the umpire a good bit of "encouragement."

Even innocent little ole me got in the act. I told him it was "back to the JV" for him and that his next assignment (friday) was the JV game at Garringer. "Be there by 4:00" I told him. LOL.

The umpire single handedly ruined a perfectly good evening of baseball. His strike zone (at least some of the time) was basically the size of a shoe box (size 8). You know it's bad when both benches and all the fans are commiserating together.

About the only thing gained from the evening was a win for South Meck. It was like winning a prize fight because the other guy lost his mouthpiece and had to quit in the 15th round.

Hough is very good. I like that team plenty. I got to see several old friends too. And kids my son played with and against in the past.

A highlight for SM was the play of Freshman Max Bazin! He started at 2B and made a couple of very nice plays. Then he went over to 3B and did the exact same thing. He had a good approach at the plate too. He's a heady ballplayer and one that I'm sure everyone will hear plenty about over the next several years.

By the way, SM is by far the biggest ballpark around. It plays huge! Last year there were only 3 HRs hit there all season. This year there's a very very good chance there won't be a single one! Tonight (as usual) there was a nice 2 club breeze blowing straight in from CF. I'm pretty sure Braves couldn't have hit a Titleist out in CF.

OOPS!!! While I was typing this there were two more walks. LOL.

    Cox Mill 2 North Stanly 1 ( 8 innings )

Austin Mace throws a complete game gem for the Chargers tonight in a very well played game on the hill at Cox Mill. In the bottom of the 8th Mace lead off with a double to left which was followed by a line drive RBI single to right by Martin Galusha for the walk off victory. Back to conference action Friday at Kannapolis at 4:30.
