Got this one in (for better or worse). The rain started in the 5th, was steady by the 6th, and kept coming. The Wonders led 5-1 going into the bottom of the 7th. A bases-loaded hit batsman drove in the winning run for West.

    Hopewell over West Charlotte

Score was very lopsided in the shutout against West Charlotte, with Hopewell's Stanton Smith pitching very well for the four innings played - rain started in the 2nd and continued steadily until the game was finally called - getting in enough innings to make it a complete game. It was a good opportunity for the Titan bench, along with several players brought up from the JV squad, to get in some playing time. Almost the entire Titan starting lineup was pulled in the first inning, which gave the non-starters, and JV players brought up for the game, a good amount of playing time. The West Charlotte outfield struggled at times, but the infield - particularly shortstop and 2nd, made some nice defensive plays as the game progressed. The WC Lions deserve kudos as they continue to get out there and play hard regardless of outcome.

Cory Snyder (Jr.) finally got hit first win pitching after 3 years on varsity. Cory has always went out and pitched well but things just never would work out. Congratulations to him on his accomplishment! The Mustangs scored 1 in the first and 6 in the second to set the tone for what would be a 5 inning game. The Mustangs were led at the dish by Senior Bubba Donathan who went 2-2, 2 BB, 2 RBI; and by Senior Dusty Joyce who went 2-2, 2 BB, 1 RBI. The Mustangs improved to 3-5 and don't step on the field until the first round of the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Tournament.

. In the top of the sixth, the East Meck Centerfielder made a Over the Shoulder Running Catch of a Towering Drive to Dead Center off the bat of Keith Mauney. As soon as he caught it, he crashed into the fence and tumbled to the ground, but HELD ON. :229031_ha

That centerfielder for East Meck is Ross Davidson and he has made SEVERAL amazing catches this season!!!!!

It was a nasty night for baseball ... neither team 'won' this game....but PHS gets it in the books!!

Wild One with Lumberton at Swett

As always throw out the records. Swett and Lumberton battled through the rain until long after pitchers could grip the ball. Should have been stopped with Lumberton up 7-4 in the middle of the sixth. Finally stopped with Lumberton up 9-8 in the top of the seventh. Lumberton looked to be in control but a bunch of errors and walks let Swett back in. Lumberton is 7-0 with wins over Scotland, Pinecrest, Pine Forest, and Ashley. Big game against Hoggard on Thursday in Wilmington.

Tough night for baseball. Look forward to seeing these teams face each other again. Even with the weather problems, the pitchers for both teams were in a groove. That's not an easy task with the moisture in the air like it was. Losing a game like that sucks, though.

What's the third baseman's name for Providence? This kid plays 3rd like a machine and has a cannon for an arm. He and Dane Arnerson are fun to watch with their gloves.
