    Ashbrook over North Meck

Ashbrook broke out their bats again tonight against North Meck. It's a pity that neither team remembered their gloves.

A pretty good game that was marred by numerous errors by both teams. I hate to think how many were committed. Both teams had players out of position in this non-conference match-up and it showed. I refused to take my shoes off to keep count in the cold, but it was soon necessary so I just gave it up as a lost cause.

Overall, Ashbrook showed their strength and showed why they have become the clear favorites in the Big South 3A. They have great team speed, swing the bats very well and are smart on the base paths. Josh Duncan did a good job on the hill for the "Green Team", besting Benji Sheehan/Steve Maddox.

Final Score: Ashbrook 13, North Meck 6
    WP: Duncan
    LP: Sheehan

Who commited the errors for North. I keep track of them and since I couldn,t make the game, your assistance would be appreciated.

There were too many to count.... you will have to check the book. I quit counting after the 1st inning as physical mistakes compounded mental ones. The defense underwent radical changes in this game. Hollar started at 1B, Cavasinni at 2B, Nossel at SS, Blake Eppes at 3B, Williams in LF, Portone in CF, Burris in RF, Sherrill caught. Sheehan pitched the first 2, Burris pitched the last 4. After 3 innings, Kellett replaced Eppes & Keith replaced Hollar.

The other 7 players watched the carnage. Though both teams "Struggled", North was definitely the team that struggled worse. With 7 of the 8 normal position players either as substitutes or "trying" a new position, every throw was an adventure. It started to drizzle in the 2nd inning and continued throughout the game. I believe the count of errors reached double digits and the mental mistakes added a few more.

This was the last game of the season that the coaching staff could experiment, so they did. Even though the Jack Sink tournament isn't counted as conference wins/losses, it is really a tune-up for the conference tournament, so look for the line-up to revert to normal for all remaining games. Numerous opportunities to score were squandered, stranding runners at 2nd, 3rd or both.

    It was an educational game.

Hopewell beat West Meck 7-0. Hopewell hit the ball pretty well, but West Meck's pitcher was leaving a lot of pitches over the plate. West Meck had chances to keep the game close in the first couple of innings with runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out in the first inning and 1st and 2nd with no outs in the second inning and couldn't score on either chance. The top of Hopewell's batting order did most of the damage. I don't have their stats but i know that they had most of their hits and RBIs.

Game called due to darkness after 9 innings. Michael Najaka and Brenden Stucky pitched very well for the Knights, and Travis High and Chris Engle pitched very well also.
