South goes to 11-0 on the year and has now outscored its opposition by 100 runs on the season.

I'll repeat the details below that I already added to the thread regarding this particular game:

The game was called in the 5th inning after the 10 run mercy rule was implemented. South still had runners on base when the game was called. Madison Bumgarner pitched the shutout going 5 innings giving up 3 hits and striking out 7. He allowed no walks and 1 hit batsman in which the runner was immediately picked off first base.

Madison also smashed a 3 run homer in the bottom of the 3rd inning to break the scoreless tie. After that point the game was basically over. With South having a 3 run lead the players for South completely relaxed and started really hitting the ball well.

Ian Haley started the game for the Rockets and eventually 2 additional pitchers were used. AC Reynolds is definitely a good team and will be dangerous in the playoffs. It sounds like Runion may not be used against South until the playoffs which is probably a good move considering the high odds that someone will have to go through the Spartans to advance deep in the playoffs. I'll say this much .. the Rockets definitely have the look of a ball team. Their players are about as big physically as South.

This was the biggest crowd I've ever seen at South. There were alot of scouts in attendance as well as ball players from many area teams. I expect a great rematch up in Asheville.

    Whiteville winning

    Whiteville 4 South Brunswick 0

    Record:
    Whiteville 8-1, 3-0 conference

This game only had four hits between the two teams. I know most baseball fans were watching two other pitchers tonight at South Caldwell but this game was a pretty good pitchers duel as well!
One hit for South Brunswick and only three hits for Whiteville. Robbie Penny pitched a one hit complete game. Only hit was off #10 for South Brunswick who lead off the second inning in the #5 slot. Robbie gave up three walks and one reached on throwing error by the 3rd baseman in the top of the 3rd inning. After that, Robbie didn't give up another base running. He shut 'em down 1, 2, 3 in the remaining innings. The left hander (#21) for South Brunswick threw a complete game, with giving up only three hits.
Note: We had several scouts in attendance to watch Penny pitch!

    WP - Robbie Penny (5-0) 7 innings, 26 batters, 1 hit, 1 reach on error, 3 walks, 9 k's.
    LP - #21, 7 innings, 28 batters, 3 hits, 1 reach on (K) pass ball, 6 walks, 10 k's, 4 runs

    Whiteville Batting:
    Michael Wright 1-2, 2B, 1 walk, 2 runs
    Ben Deans 1-2, 1 walk, 1 RBI,
    Trey Nye 1-3, 2B, 2 RBI's
    Tyrone McCoy 0-2, 1 walk, 1 run

Whiteville plays at home on Friday night at 5 p.m. against Heide Trask High School. They also play Saturday at 1 p.m. at home against a NY team!
