Not sure about scores... but South Caldwell beat West Lincoln and Hibriten beat Fred T. Foard... If West Caldwell won, Caldwell Co went 3-0 for the first time in a long time...

McDowell actually leads by as much as 13 at one point until the Cavs come out and go on a 31-7 run to take a commanding lead. McDowell had no way to get back in it. Personally, It's a very common tale at MHS.

We all know that you do not like Coach Church, so keep your comments to yourself. I am sorry that in 1988 your brother did not have much playing time for the JV's under Coach Church.

    Crest 84 Freedom 69

The game was moved up because of fears about the weather. The girls game was played at 4:30 with the boys game coming after. No JV game. Crest was able to get a 20 point lead and kept it between 14 and 20 most of the night. Crest was led in the scoring column by Dion Malachai. The 6'5" Jr had 30 points including a very nasty reverse dunk on a fast break. CJ Wright had 19, Jared Maddox 13, and Rayshawn Roseboro with 12. Crest moves to 4-1 on the year and host Ashbrook Friday night in their con. opener.

They were short on the bench last night as Anthony Neal is nursing and injury and looks to be out for a week or 2.

Brandon Spikes will join the team for the Freedom Christmas Tourney. He will then miss another week when he is in San Antonio for the Army All-American game.

Hey Titan, KISS MY FAT ASS. You dont like my comments, then get over it. And if Church is reading, he can kiss my ass too. Im not worried about my brother, that issue is irrelavant to my previous post.

Titan, there's alot of people that dont like Church, and like me, want him gone from McDowell High School. With the talent from last year's team, we should have been a force and IMO, the NW4A Champions and in high contention in the state playoffs. Instead, we turned out to be mediocre and a first-round knockout. We have the opportunity to be good this year, we're again on the path of mediocrity. Since 1997, if you bother to take a look at what Church has done, it's not looked great at all. He's had the talent, but did jack squat with it.

That East Rutherford game was something that told me something I already knew. As good as we could have been, East was still better and their run was coming.

Reynoldsrocks23 and I had an interesting conversation the other day and it struck me weird how similar the Ronnie Arnold situation at ACR a few years ago, is becoming the same at MHS. Arnold, a former junior high coach in McDowell County, then the long time ACR coach, was a great coach that had great success then turned into a coach that no player wanted to play for.

Lloyd Church is following in those same footsteps. I mean, with the exception of the Freedom/East Burke/senior night games, there's hardly no one there (except for the players' families). More people come out for the girls' games, then leave when the boys' play or after the first quarter or first half has ended. I have on good authority that many of the players that played under Church and currently play for him now, despise him, but bite their tongues cause they have no where else to go.

If Rob Bliss, Joe Davis, or Terry Rogers had this team, they would win the NW4A going away and would be tough to beat. If MHS had Lloyd Church before the 1991 choke that spelled the demise to his career, they would be tough. But what we got now is a cancer, and I pray that its removed very, Very, VERY soon for the good of the program.

^ Why is it the fault of the coach? Maybe the players didn't do what they were COACHED to do...unless you are around that team every second that the coach is, you really don't know any thing about the situation...you guys that sit in the stands and second guess the coaches, then come on here to post your assessments really crack me up...

Sir, this isnt just about job performance, although that is a problem too. When good, talented kids REFUSE to play for someone all because the coach is an obnoxious, self-centered prick that has on several occasions has shown this behavior in practice (But of course would never show it in a game)...It tells me that something is wrong with this coach's people skills.

Last year, this coach (Who acted as a referee along with the other coaches, for an in-practice scrimmage), told some of the teammates to rough one particular player up because he "plays better when angry." So when the players did, the player kept asking the coach for fouls, he didnt whistle the calls. So in a game against East Burke, the player (who was the top player on the team) missed a few shots, then was benched for the entire game all because he didnt produce. The player got angry at the conclusion of the game, turned in his uniform, said a few choice words, and quit. That was a Friday game, on the following Monday, he came back to the coach, apologized for his behavior, asked the coach if he could return, and said it wouldnt happen again. The coach cussed the player out and then told him "You had your shot, and you fuckin blew it. IM the coach here, you dont cuss me out. You aint coming back." (This is a direct quote from the player who is a kid that I attend church with). Had the coach been someone that had been level-headed, and one with a heart, the player would have came back, but most decisively would have faced some sort of discipline for his behavior.

He's had other incidents in his 18 years as coach that make this look relatively calm. He's personally threatened to kill me on two occasions when I tried to obtain information for another high school in which McDowell High was set to play in a tournament at. Two years ago, a fan from T.C. Roberson approached me at the TCR-MHS game at MHS and told me that he heard it all and would testify that he heard the confrontation. I turned this information over to MHS' administration and nothing was done to investigate. Members of the school board wouldnt budge themselves. Its this behavior that I wouldnt want my dog playing for him let along my kid (If I had children).

The best response I got concerning this whole situation came from Derrick Lytle, a former JV player, who would have became a good role player for the varsity team. When I asked him at church why he didnt go out for the team his response was this..."I'd rather lose every game with Coach Brian Franklin, than to win every game and win a State Championship with Lloyd Church."---To me, that says it all.
