Rivalry game. Cross town rivalry games are never predictable.

Is that Tyler Wharton that used to play AAU for Catawba Valley Storm? Should be a freshman or Soph. Just Curious. Thanks.

West's bats were dead all game but they found a way to win.

Junior Stephen Mullis hit a beautiful triple.

No, JT is an older brother. He's a junior. Tyler is a freshman on the JV team.

    Maiden 5 Lincolnton 4

Congratulations to Maiden on their first victory of the season! This is an extremely young team who seem to be making progress.

Head coach Dusty Ellis is a very fine coach and is getting the most out of these kids. They've got a long way to go.....but they appear to be on the right track. Good luck to the Blue Devils.

I meant to post this the other day but forgot to:

Brody McCuiston hustled out a single and turned it into a double in the first inning, and then scored from second on an error two batters later. No one else would cross the plate the rest of the game.

UNC-G signee Alex Shelton and West Stokes junior Jacob Moore combined for 26 strikeouts in the game, and gave up a combined 7 hits. Neither pitcher gave up an earned run in the game. Shelton threw consistentally between 84 and 87 miles per hour, and hit 90 mph one time. Moore was a consistent 84-85 and topped out at 88 mph.

Both teams move to 6-1 in conference. West Stokes next plays at home on Friday afternoon against Southern Guilford. McMichael next plays against Eastern Guilford. I'm not sure where that game at.

    Alex Shelton 7IP 0R 3H 15K 1BB 0BB
    Jacob Moore 7IP 1R 0ER 4H 11K 4BB 0HBP

Stovor threw a no-hitter for Riverside in a 5 inning game. Only one Hillside batter got on base.
