No score from our game. Hickory cnacelled our game with them tonight because of exams. I don't think anyone else is doing that so not sure why they were allowed to. This week and a half of exams is a little much i think anyway. When i was in school we to them all in 1 day.

We face the same issue being a member of the MAC...Buncombe County and Asheville City Schools has the same policy of no athletic events during exam week.

I personally have no problem with it...the way the state requires the testing remediation, they need the time much more than how it used to be, even for me just 12 years ago.

Here are a few scores from tonight's action in the MAC...

    AC Reynolds 49
    North Buncombe 35

***Reynolds had a huge 22 point lead at halftime...they limited the Lady Hawks to only 2 points in the second quarter. North Buncombe made a 2nd half rally getting as close as 7 points two minutes into the fourth quarter, but it was too much of a deficit to recover from***

    St. Stephens 56
    Watauga 41

Definition of a let-down game last night after the huge victory over Hickory. St. Stephens slowed the pace down to fit their style, and Watauga couldn't throw it in the ocean. Coming off a great shooting effort Friday night, nothing was falling for the Lady Pioneers. On a positive not: only 2 second half turnovers I believe. Look to rebound tonight with a victory over Hibriten.

When I look at these standings and then look back at the 3 games Freedom played McDowell it looks like it really worked out well for Freedom in their new conference.

BigDan have you noticed the sorry coverage the Asheville media have given the new Mac conference. The games, especially McDowell are NEVER covered by wlos sports and now the Asheville Citizen-Times has quit covering the games. They no longer have the top ten rankings in basketball or the "best in the west". They have been reduced to only covering ACA, a private school loaded with hand picked talent playing sub-par teams that would struggle to compete in a 1a public school conference.

Tony, you are correct. Nobody wants to play the same team three times in a month, but take out the game out at McDowell and the other two were competitive. Even the game at McDowell helps as anytime a team get there rear kicked it can help...

The new SMAC isn't the NW4a but Freedom isn't a 4a team either with the loss of so many students.

Hopefully playing Freedom helped McDowell as well. I dont think that either team had that strong of a non-conference schedule. It's nice now to be able to really root for McDowell since we're not in the same conference. Great kids and yes.. Great fans!

I agree with you here Freedom Sball. As much as I love the rivalry between Freedom and McDowell I have to admit It was really sad when I looked up at that scoreboard at McDowell and say the lady patriots down 40-12. I never expected that in a million years. But like you said the other 2 games were more respectable. You mention the size of the schools. Is there really a lot of difference in their size. It seems like I read that there was still about as many students at Freedom as there are McDowell. Maybe someone can post the numbers.
