    South Granville 5 7 2

    Chris Luck WP 7ip 7k 1bb 1hit

South Granville moves to 4-0 in conference play and 10-3 overall. South Granville struggled a bit at the plate. Northern Vance rhp was very effective with the gravity pitch. Must have been upper 50's to mid 60's and Im not kidding. Jeff May got the Vikings going in the fourth with a two out double in the rcf gap that scored two runs. Jon Lynch doubled in the fifth and drove in two more for the Vikings. Vikings travel to Conf foe Roanoke Rapids Thursday night at 7pm. Freshman Pratt Maynard will be on the hill for SG.

R.J. Reynolds vs. Davie - Postponed after 2 innings

Thank goodness this game was postponed. I'm not sure what else would have happened if the game continued. It was drizzling from the start of the game, the grass was wet and the dirt was muddy. It probably never should have been started.

Anyway, last night Davie hit the ball hard and only managed 1 hit for the whole game. Tonight they couldn't get the ball out of the infield in the first inning and yet ended up with 6 hits and 5 runs! A bouncer up the middle, a popped up bunt that was almost caught by the pitcher, another bunt toward 1B, a Baltimore chop to 3B that was beat out, a bouncer just over the pitcher's outstretched glove, and finally a bloop single into shallow RC that resulted in a force out at 2B - is that even a hit or a fielder's choice? Two runs scored when the runner stole 2nd and the ball was thrown into CF. What else could happen?

At least Reynolds came back in the top of the 2nd to score 4 runs. Davie helped by walking 3 batters in a row to load the bases with one out. After a force out at the plate, two singles drove in the four runs. Jay Laramore had the 2nd single. He hit it to the LC field fence but he slipped on the wet grass trying to make the turn at first and fell to the ground! Otherwise he had a sure double.

Davie came back with two more runs in the bottom of the 2nd on a double, two hit batters, a fielders choice and a passed ball.

So the score is 7-5 with Davie in the lead. I'm not sure when the game will be continued.

Jay Laramore is pitching for Reynolds, and Tim Erb is pitching for Davie. I'm sure both of these guys would rather forget this game was even played. What a mess!

    Rose/Rocky Mount

As mentioned above, Bullock just flat out shut RM down. We hardly whiffed the ball. I want to give our starting pitcher, Chad Womble , a lot of credit. After a rocky 1st inning, he settled down and threw well for the next 4 innings before tiring a little, and losing his touch. He's just a soph., so we look forward to good things from him for the remainder of this year ,and the next two. Rose is much more formidable with Bullock than with their other pitchers I've seen. Graepel can be very effective, but I think he lacks Bullock's consistency. On offense, if you give Rose an opportunity, they will make you pay. Those boys have great confidence when they step in the batter's box. My hat's off to them.

    NORTHERN 6-6, 2-1

Really tough loss for the Rockets as crucial errors in the bottom of the 7th gave Northern the opportunity to win the game in the bottom, which they were able to do. This offset a spectacular pitching performance by JR/RHP Jerrod Moore who had 10 K's and 0 BB's and allowed 1 ER in his first start of the season coming off his broken finger on his pitching hand. Moore was really sharp. The Rockets Left runners in scoring position in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 6th, and did not get key hits when needed.
