Trojans give up 6 unearned runs in Classic Ballgame: West Rowan 8 NWC 7

As the NW Cabarrus base runner rounded 3rd on the hit to centerfield, everyone in the stands responded, "NW Cabarrus has done it again! A 3-run 7th inning comeback to tie the game.......", until everyone looked up and saw that the tying runner had slipped in the wet grass and had to retreat to 3rd base. :thud:

WR closer, Brett Hatley, in relief of starter Wade Moore, had just given up a towering 2-run shot to Jerrod Faggart and proceeded to load the bases when the NWC runner slipped.

WR coach Chris Cauble then inserted Weston Church, who with 1 out and the bases juiced, struck out Justin Rodriguez. Then 2B Connor Bean laced a slow roller that the shortstop had to charge. Bean, the fastest runner for NWC, looked to barely beat the throw, the umpire hesitated........and raised his hand for the out signal as the Falcon bench erupted in celebration. :umno:

NWC starter Blake Ketner was the undeserved loser as the Trojan defense allowed 6 unearned runs. West starter Wade Moore, started slow, giving up first inning home-runs to Jake Faggart (2-run shot) and Kyle Seager (solo blast) and almost gave up another 2-run shot to Blake Ketner if not for an awesome leaping catch at the fence by WR centerfielder Zeb Link. :applause:

The Trojans extended thier lead to 5-0 in the 2nd inning. That's when Wade Moore settled down and kept the game close, allowing his team to come back on some timely hitting and taking advantage of some Trojan fielding errors. :banginghe

The score was tied 5-5 in the bottom of the sixth when a inning-ending double-play ball took a bad infield hop and all hands were safe. This eventually allowed the go-ahead run to score and set up a 2 RBI double by Bryan Aycock to put WR ahead 8-5. This led to the dramatic 7th inning comeback for the Trojans that just fell short.

A very disappointing loss for NW Cabarrus but a very entertaining baseball game between two of NC's finest.

STRANGE BEDFELLOWS?: My wife and I had a great time tailgating with the West Rowan faithful down the left field line during the game. We also had a couple of East Rowan folks with us doing some heavy-duty scouting. Anyway, we all had a great time and no one got in a fight. (Great Hot Dogs, Darrell!!! Fantastic chili! Perfect on a cold night) :ylsuper:

No SW4A games tonight? No MECA-8 games tonight? Just curious.

    North Meck @ Central Cabarrus.

Man, this game was intense. It was full of high drama.

Central is for-real. They have a very good defense, OUTSTANDING team speed and I've never seen a Central team that couldn't hit. These guys swing the bat very well. A few standouts:

Ryan Brown, SS, sets the table for them beautifully as the leadoff hitter. He is a tough out and a smooth fielder. He also generates excellent bat speed.

Jason Auten, OF, hits 3rd for them. He has a great swing from the left side, has very, very good speed and plays the game right. Jason turned on the first pitch he saw tonight and planted it well over the RF fence. He was hitting the ball hard all night.

Ryan LaBoy, OF is the clean up hitter. He also plays CF and is great defensively, cutting off balls to the gap very cleanly and quickly. He's had a great year at the plate too with outstanding speed.

Central is just plain fun to watch play the game. They had base runners everywhere all game long, but never got the key hit to push them over and put North away.

Now ... for the action tonight.

As indicated, Auten jumped on a FB in the first inning for a solo shot, giving Central a 1-0 lead. They added a run in the 3rd on a throwing error for a 2-0 lead and their starter made it stand up through 6.

In the top of the 7th, with Central ahead, North plated 6 runs, the big blast being a Grand Slam by Zack Pou. Central loaded the bases in the bottom of the 7th, pushed one over the plate, but couldn't get any closer.

    Final:
North Meck 6, Central Cabarrus 3
    WP: Porter

My cardiac catheterization is scheduled for tomorrow AM. I decided to make the appointment in the 6th inning. :supergrin

    Butler 9, Myers Park 2

    "Losing is a disease..."

It wasn't pretty at Myers Park tonight. After Jordan Cudney shut down the Bulldogs with three strike-outs in the top of the first, it was more of the same for Myers Park. Andrew Smith got the Mustangs in order in the bottom half, then Butler scored three in the top of the second on two hits and four walks. The Mustangs got only one in the bottom half despite four hits. Butler broke it open with 5 in the sixth. The Mustangs made four fielding errors in the game and several baserunning mistakes as well. Smith went the distance for Butler, allowing seven hits.

    Butler 031 005 0 9 10 1
    MPark 010 001 0 2 7 4

    WP Andrew Smith 7IP, 30BF, 2ER, 7H, 0BB, 1HB, 4Ks
    LP Jordan Cudney 4IP, 20BF, 4R, 3ER, 4H, 4BB, 4Ks
    Ryan Rockecharlie 2IP, 13BF, 5R, 3ER, 6H, 1HB, 1K
    Jordan Harris 1IP, 3BF, 0R, 0H, 2Ks

    Leading Hitters:
    Butler
    Travis White, 3-4, 3B, 1R, 3RBIs
    Shaun Wixted, 2-4, 2Rs, BB, 1RBI
Matt Crump, 1-3, HBP, 2 RBIs
Kevin Glass, 1-3, BB, 2 Rs
Tony Hearrell, 1-2, BB, 2 Rs
    Myers Park
    Scott Matthews, 3-3, 2Rs
    Cody Drake, 2-3
Jeremy Mathis, 1-2, SF, 2 RBIs

Myers Park starts over with Waddell on Friday. Hopefully the second half through the conference will be an improvement over the 2-5 first half as the Mustangs assume the role of spoiler.

The good news for the Mustangs is that the JVs continue their fine play. Myers Park's JVs rallied from a 2-1 deficit in the sixth to beat the JV Bulldog's 5-2. A homerun in the bottom of the sixth by Tom Guerwood was the key blow. Guerwood also closed on the mound for starter Chip Gaul. The MP JVs are 8-2 on the season. They will face East Meck at 4:30 on Friday at Myers Park.
