Matt Cochran keeps improving every time I've seen him. I first saw him as a 7th grader playing middle school ball. He's swinging a solid bat, has a very strong build and has obviously been working hard. Has a good release to 2nd base. At the plate, he looks strong and has a good eye for the zone.

He gunned out Cavasinni on his one swipe attempt. He definitely has the potential to help out a team at the next level if he continues to progress.

Charlotte Christian vs. Socastee HS (Myrtle Beach)

    Game 1
    Charlotte Christian 8; Socastee 9

I'll tell you one thing, these guys from Myrtle Beach can flat out hit. Socastee is ranked #4 in SC, but they are the best team I've seen all year. With that said heres the summary. The knights scored runs, but just couldnt hold them. After putting up 3 runs in the first inning christian couldn't make plays on defense and the Pitcher couldnt throw strikes. The knights gave the game away. withe the score 8-4 in favor of Socastee, christian battled back to tie it up at 8-8. Socastee score 1 run in the bottom of the 6th to take the lead 9-8 and that was how it ended.

    Game 2
    Charlotte Christian 9; Socastee 10

The runs continued to pile up for each team. After taking an early 5-0 advantage, the knights continued to make mental mistakes on defense, and with the way Socastee hits the baseball the 5 run lead wouldnt stand for long, socastee posted 10 unanswered runs and took the lead 10-5. In the top of the 7th with the knights down 5 runs, christian battled back again and scored 4 runs, matt gantner probably shold of tied the game up but the LF made an incredible catch to win the game and save the tying rbi. bad mental mistakes on christians part lost them both games, with a team that hits the ball like socastee you can't afford to make mistakes in the field or they'll come back to haunt you, like it showed saturday

christian starts conference paly this week with Providence Day on monday

I've known Matt Cochran and his family since he was in 6th grade, my little brother played Little League with him and let me tell you what...I do not think I've ever seen a single player improve as much and as well as he has. He has become a very solid player behind the plate, and he can hit the ball better than most. Since I've been watching him/hearing about him playing, he's impressed me tremendously, because people didn't even think he'd play high school baseball. Boy did he prove them wrong. He has more talent and determination than most people I can even think of.

    Team effort

Matt Cochran I know appreciates the kind words and has the highest respect for Cavissini's base stealing accomplishments, but he will be the first one to tell you that catching any runner stealing is a team effort. The Pitcher, Catcher and Infield all have to perform. In regards to the North Meck game Dusty White pitched a heck of a game and held all runners close to the base. He had them off balance at the plate as well as on the bases. North Meck has tremendous team speed and Hopewell's players rose to the occassion.

The ball game though was won by Brett Richardson's clutch triple with 2 on in the sixth. Congratulations Brett and a big thanks from the Hopewell crowd.

    Socastee

Yes, a bunch of those Pelican kids ended up at Socastee. The AAU coach is on the staff at Socastee and they have been accused of recruiting but I think they have been cleared.
