Hopewell 3, JM Robinson 2 in 8 innings

This was a tightly contested game. I don’t know much about Robinson’s team so I’ll give info mostly on Hopewell, but let me say that I feel Robinson’s pitcher was very good and he also was durable as he went the full 8 innings. Maybe a J M Robinson fan can tell us who he was. Hopewell struck first going up 2-0 early before Robinson came back and tied it 2-2, and that was the way it stayed til the 8th.

For Hopewell, Stanton Smith pitched 4.667 innings before handing the ball over to Michael Vaughn with the score tied 2-2 and the bases loaded. Vaughn struck out the last batter of the side and pitched three more scoreless innings, striking out 4-5 more and allowing only one runner to reach base. Vaughn also drove in Andy Oliver for the go ahead run in the top of the 8th.

The leading hitters, from memory, for Hopewell were Oliver, Vaughn, Adam Waters who I believe had 2 RBIs, and Zach Turton.

    McDowell 13, West Henderson 9

    West 2-0-0-4-0-3-0 9-14-4
    McDowell 5-0-6-2-0-0 13-14-3

    WP Tyler Staton
    LP Luke Smithson

McDowell hit 3 home runs off starter Smithson in the 1st inning to jump out to a lead they never surrendered. The starting pitcher for McDowell, Jeremy Freeman too a shot to the leg in the 1st and had to leave the game. Hope he is OK.

    WH is now 11-2.

    Charlotte Christian 3
    vs.
    Hillcrest, SC 1

    WP: Jared Bard

bard pitched a great game as the knights won the battle of the border. hillcrest, one of SC's top 4A teams, struck first in the 4th, scoring 1 run off a double then the knights took advantage of acouple hillcrest walks and manufactured 3 runs in the bottom half of the inning. this marks the 11th straight win for christian and they have alot of momentum going into the shelby tourny.

    Christian: 18-5
    Hillcrest: 18-7

    Athens finally breaks streak

Athens, having some tough luck with injuries to top 2 starters early in season, breaks 10 game losing streak by beating Apex 4-2 tonight at Apex.
Travis Lush pitched 7 innings for the win.
