    West Henderson 8, McDowell 7

    McDowell 0-0-0-0-0-0-7 7-11-0
    WH 0-0-2-2-3-0-1 8-14-0

    WP Matthew Pruitt, 7in, 1 run, 1 er, 8 hits, 6 k's, 1 walk.
    LP Barker, 2 in, 1 run, 1 er, 0bb, 3 hits.

Pruitt had pitched shutout ball for 6 innings. McDowell led off with a triple to start the 7th. Pruitt was lifted for a relief pitcher. 7 runs, 0 outs, and 2 relief pitchers later, Pruitt came back in to get the final 3 outs after the score was tied. Hence his line score. Very strange.

    For McDowell:
    Seth Branch 2/5
    Matt Huskins 2/4
Casey Allison 2/4 with a double
Justin Johnson 2/4 with a double
Devon Gardner 1/3 with a triple
Evan Miller 1/3 with a double
    Tyler Staton 1/3

    For WH:
Jason Merrill 3/4, game winning rbi
    Josh Moore 2/4
    Spencer Linn 2/4, 2 doubles
    Seth Grant 2/3
Casey Allison (yes both teams had one) 2/3
    Jerry Brinkley 1/4
    Matthew Pruitt 1/3
    Caleb Cuevas 1/3

WH is now 14-1, McDowell is now 6-11

    SM vs Garinger

    South Meck - a bunch
    Garinger - not enough

Serioulsy, my hat is off to the Garinger players....they get better with each game and made some very good plays in the field tonight.

A lot of heart and no quit in that team!

Thanks to all. Jack just read your posts and blushed, but he says thanks, too. That East Meck field is a special place! Glad we could share some of that Magic on Monroe tonight. Original, if what you're samplin is that swamp juice of yours, I'll be right over.

For the game, it was a really exciting one to watch. Ryan Rockecharlie pitched 1 1/3 innings of no-hit scoreless relief to get the win; Justin Shumer took the loss.

Joey Savago and Matt McNichols both had two-run homeruns for East. McNichols' shot went over the trailers beyond the right field fence -- one of the longest high school homeruns I've ever seen, and it was also very dramatic -- it tied the score at 5 with two out in the bottom of the 7th.

MP starter Cody Drake, who went 4, alllowed 3 runs on only 4 hits, striking out 3 and walking 1. East starter Brett Alter, who pitched into the 7th, also pitched well, as did Jordan Cudney, who pitched 3 2/3 innings of 2 hit ball in relief, giving up only the McNichols blast.

I didn't keep a book tonight, but thanks to East official scorekeeper Carter Smith, I have some details. For the Mustangs, Scott Matthews was 3-5 with two runs scored, David Casstevens was 3-4 with a 2b, 2 runs and an rbi, and Jack Magee was 4-5 with that ninth innning home run and 3 rbis. Ryan Rockecharlie, Jordan Cudney and Cody Drake also had hits for the Mustangs.

For East, in addition to the home runs by McNichol and Savgo, Brett Alter was 2-4 with an rbi, and Andy Hostutler and Matt Sheehan also had hits.

In addition to the 13 hits, Myers Park had its best defensive game in a while. On the other hand, East had more defensive miscues than usual.

    South Granville vs Warren County

    Warren County 01 04 03
    South Granville 11 10 00

South Granville hosted Warren County in a Northern Carolinas 2-A match up Tuesday night. Sr Rhp SS Todd Helmer got his first start of the season and went four innings giving up 3 hits and 1 er. Helmer struck out 6 and 1 bb. Soph Rhp 1b Chris Luck pitched the 5th inning allowing 1 hit and no runs. South Granville was led at the plate by Helmer who was 3-4 2b and 3rbi. Pratt Maynard 2-4 2b and 3rbi and Jeff May 1-1 2b 2bb 1hbp 3rbi. The game was stopped after the top of the fifth due to the 10 run rule. South Granville improves to 13-3 6-0 for the year. South Granville travels to Bunn Thursday night for a conference game with the Wildcats. Freshman Rhp Pratt Maynard 4-1 will be on the hill for the Vikings.
