    Green Hope 6, Apex 0

Cory Tilton (4-2) pitched his 3rd complete game of the season, shutting out Apex 6-0. The Falcons played solid defense and Marcus Brown made a spectacular catch to end the game and save the shutout.

The Falcons got on the board first in the home half of the 1st inning. Todd Eberhart led off with a double to right-center, moved to 3rd on Cory Tilton's ground out to the right side, and scored on David Shambley's sacrifice fly to center.

Tilton and Apex pitcher Kyle Butler locked up in a pitchers' dual for the next few innings. Tilton allowed only 4 hits in the game, but got got help from the Falcon defense along the way. David Shambley threw out two runners attempting to steal in the 2nd inning, and Todd Eberhart made some nice catches in center to help keep the score 1-0 going to the home half of the 6th inning.

Tilton helped himself leading off the Falcon 6th inning, getting a single up the middle. Shambley worked the count 3-2 and singled to center putting runners on 1st and 2nd. Casey Cole then ran for Shambley. Matt Holt smashed a ground rule double to right center, scoring Tilton and putting runners on 2nd and 3rd. Chris Kott then singled to center to bring in Cole, and runners were on the corners. After a strikeout, Butler threw a wild pitch which allowed Holt to score, and Kott moved to 2nd. Josh Swygart ran for Kott and Brown's infield hit put runners on the corners again. Michael Gyoerkoe singled to bring in Swygart, and Ryan Tilton followed with another single to bring in Brown, and the Falcons were up 6-0.

Cory Tilton got a quick out in the top of the 7th on a fly out, but walked the next 2 batters. Butler struck out on 3 pitches, and Tilton worked around Tim Federowicz to load the bases with 2 outs. Micheal Knox took the count to 2-2, then hit what looked like a grand slam off the bat, but Marcus Brown made a spectacular catch reaching over the left field fence to rob Knox and end the game and preserve the shutout.

Matt Holt and Ryan Tilton had 2 hits each for the Falcons. Cory Tilton pitched his 3rd complete game of the season and earned his first shutout. Green Hope improves to 5-3 in the Tri-7 Conference, Apex falls to 4-3.

Oliver goes 5 2/3 giving up 6 hits and 2 earned and Dusty White gets save with 1 1/3 innings of relief. Oliver had a 2 RBI double and Dozier, Turton and White contributed to the offensive results. Titans have now beaten both North Meck and Central in their last 2 games and are in the playoff hunt.

    Myers Park - East

I revised my earlier post to get the details right. I slighted David Castevens the first time. He went 3-4 for the Mustangs to continue his fine year at the plate.

I looked back and saw that nothing had been posted on the East-Waddell game from last Friday and want to add that in that win for East, Jake Raynor pitched a one-hit shutout, and Joey Savago, Chip Smith and Matt McNichol all had home runs. Smith's was a grand slam and was his first HR of the season; Savago's was also his first. He proceeded to get his second last night! This East team is having an outstanding season.

And yes Braves, Jack's HR last night was his first high school HR, and it couldn't have come at a better time.

    Sun Valley 0

Piedmont scores on a 2-run HR in the 4th and a sac fly by Dallas Tarleton in the 5th. Timmy King was the winning pitcher. Started the game with two walks and a base hit but settled down after that. Very good ball game by both teams.

Piedmont (13-2)(8-1) jumped back into the drivers seat in the SPC with a great victory @ Sun Valley.
Tim King was outstanding again. I haven't been to a lot of games this year except for Piedmont but I can not imagine too many pitchers that are any better than Tim. In a pressure game with the conference lead on the line, Tim went out and pitched a complete game, 2 hit, 3 BB shutout. He struck out 13 batters. In the last 5 innings his only baserunner was an infield hit and he struck out 10. When he throws strikes with his curveball he has been unhittable this year.

Tim is (7-0) for the year with a 0.35 ERA.

The batting hero was Bryan Parker who hit a 2 run HR in the 5th to give Piedmont the lead. Dallas Tarelton hit a sac/fly in the 6th for some insurance that Tim did not need.

    Hopewell 3 - Central Cabarrus 3

    HopewelI 0 0 0 1 2 0 0 3 7 1 4
    Central C. 0 0 0 1 0 1 0 2 7 0 12

If you like drama, and you were at the Hopewell vs. Central Cabarrus game you got more than your monies worth. Andy Oliver went 5 2/3 innings giving up 1 unearned run in the 4th and 1 earned in the 6th. Oliver made key pitches when needed striking out 7 of the 23 Viking batters he faced. Dusty White then retired the side with a K in the 5th. The Titans got 2 quick outs in the 7th and to the Vikings credit they battled back to load the bases. Dusty worked the final batter into a 2-2 count and got him to strike out while looking at an off speed strike on the corner after he fouled off 6 pitches.

The Titan defense was led by Wes Dozier who has played BIG TIME at short. He has moved over from 2nd base to short to fill in for Matt Gardner who has been injured. Wesley converted a key double play (6-3) in the 5th to shut down a Viking rally, just after the Titans had re-taken the lead 3-1. Also have to mention Drew Rochester whose position number is scattered through out the score card turning ground balls into outs, and handling the pop ups well also.

Wes Dozier and Dusty White both went 2 for 3. Andy Oliver went 1 for 4 with 2 key RBI's in the 5th. Matt Cochran went 1 for 3 and got the other RBI in the 4th. Zach Turton went 1 for 3 and reached the bases safely also in the 7th after being hit by a pitch.

We're glad to hear Matt Gardner got some good news from the Doctors and should be able to return to action shortly. Matt, your leadership and support of the team while out injured has not gone unnoticed, nor unappreciated.
